Introduction
In psychology, understanding the encephalon is very important as it influences peoples’ mental states as well as their character. The encephalon is the most vital part of a human being as it allows people to hear, see, learn, understand, remember, and create language. Every part of the encephalon must work together to ensure the proper functioning of the body as a whole. Through the functions of the encephalon, I have acquired numerous lessons. The first one is that the amygdala has taught me that, at times, our encephalon is flooded with lots of emotions. However, it is never my fault whenever I feel overwhelmed; it is my amygdala that is taking over. I have come to know that I cannot control that, but I can learn strategies that will help me overcome the amygdala hijacks. The other lesson is that the cortex teaches me that I need to assist it so that it can help me in making effective decisions (Seligman et al. 282). Also, to think well and control my impulses. It is so amazing to know that my encephalon controls all my actions, and I can find out ways to grow and stretch it as well as regulate my emotions.
Finally, the hippocampus has taught me that my brain needs stretching each now and then. It is crucial because it will help me remember things all through my school life as well as in real life. These functions of the brain have impacted my life in different ways. First and foremost, I have grown the habit of reading after discovering that my mind needs stretching for it to grasp enough information. As we all know, good readers make good leaders. Secondly, I have learned some strategies that help me in controlling my emotions, and I have never been happier (Hebb & Donderi 66). Through my efforts to expand and grow my brain, I am now able to make wise decisions, and I have never been proud of myself.
Applying the knowledge, I have learned to become a better student
I have learned that there are different perspectives in which we, students, acquire knowledge. The first one is the behavioral perspective that claims that all characters are acquired through conditioning. Operant conditioning, in this case, elaborates on how learning happens. However, this method is always criticized because it does not consider things like attitude (Hebb & Donderi 67). The other perspective I have learned is the developmental one. In this case, it explains how the learners acquire knowledge and skills. Through this, it is easy to understand the capability of the learners at each level of their growth. The third perspective is the cognitive one. In this case, they majorly focus on emotions, memories, motivations, and beliefs that contribute to the learning process. It is the most effective one because it helps the students to learn and solve problems in an appropriate manner.
Through the lessons learned in my psychology class, I have found ways that will help me to become a better person. I will acquire more knowledge from researching, going through revision material, and reading topics related to my course even if they are not in the syllabus (Seligman et al. 280). Secondly, I am planning to acquire my skills by going for an attachment during my long holiday instead of just staying at home through this will know what is expected of me when I get into the competitive market. Thirdly, I am intending to be more active in class by asking and answering questions as this will help me to have a clear understanding. The final way is through having a good group of friends that we can discuss with as well as play. As we all know, all work with no play makes Jack a dull boy, and a dumb person performs poorly in his or her activities.
How My Personality Affects My Social Life
According to psychology, there are four types of personality; these are melancholic, sanguine, phlegmatic, and choleric. In all these, my character is melancholic. Through my psychology classes, I have learned a lot about my personality. First and foremost, we are the perfectionists as compared to the other personality types. We tend to be the quiet ones but also the wise ones as we observe a lot and talk less (Hebb & Donderi 65). Secondly, I learned that we are deep thinkers, and due to this, we tend to analyze things before we come into a conclusion. The third thing is that we are creative, and that is when I understood where my love for drawing and writing poems came from. Also, I learned why I am so loyal no matter how some treat me.
Despite the right traits, we also tend to have some negative characteristics. We tend to be so pessimistic once we hit rock bottom because we always feel like the situation will never get better. Also, people of the melancholic personality are so stubborn due to their close-mindedness. My social life is good. Because when it comes to something like relationships, I take them seriously and invest my time in it because I want it to last. In relationships, I tend to be so loyal, supportive, protective, loving, giving out gifts, and trustworthy. Jumping from one link to another is a taboo. To me, I consider the traditions that are associated with dating. When it comes to friends and family, i am a person they rely on because I never solution for any challenge and also the fact that I am loyal. However, I am also very selective when it comes to friends because I want someone who makes me a better person. Someone whom we can make moves together.
