The departed presents with a series of events that provide us with chances to study philosophical aspects in the movie, the movie entails several characters with different moral degrees, those who do not stand by the ethical rules and that brings us to deontology. Deontology in this side deals with events that directly relate to ethics in the movie. Movies like departed have forms the basis of presenting events that aids in unveiling bad the character that does exist in the society. Some form the platform to make the moral judgment of characters in the community as well as providing chances for studying example the philosophical events in the film. There is intimately events in the film that both portray the character with unusual ethical characters, the teleological aspects as well as virtue ethics among others. The paper here analyses philosophical events in the film departed covering vital areas such as the deontology, teleology, virtue ethics and utilitarianism amongst other fields.
Deontological aspect is evident in the film where a young boy, Collin Sullivan in the film is introduced to a dangerous organized group of the gangster. From the normative ethical position, the action is unethical, and it is not right as the moral puts it. It is introducing a young boy in the group of the organized gangster. It ruins the ethical principle of society. The mob boss, Frank facilitated the process (Diehl, 2016). The action covers the deontology aspect of the philosophical events in the movie. After he was enrolled in the organized crime, Collin is then trained to be a mole in the police. The moral standpoint of this action is not right. Frank uses this boy to obtained information about the police movements. Manipulating human being for personal gains is unethical.
In the departed film, there is also the concept of utilitarianism, and this is evident when Sullivan shots Costello. Though Sullivan did not notice that he was doing based on helping the other population, Sullivan killed Costello intending to protect himself from an attempt made by Costello in shooting him. Sullivan killed Costello who was a chance to save others who might have been injured by Costello (Rutka, 2019). The killing Costello in the film presents the concept of utilitarianism, and this is so because Costello would have caused death as well as interfering with people personal life. Killing Costello means reducing the level of criminal events and acts in the region as well as managing the moral law. This act presents utilitarianism.
The killing of Costigan also shows the point of Unitarianism and killing him involved helping Sullivan. Costigan was Sullivan and taught him to take it back and connect those with you. The killing had a massive impact on the chosen population because it takes care of you.
Conclusion
To sum up, the departed provides us with a whole lot of chances about philosophical events. Costello killing by the Sullivan is evident that was waiting for Sullivan was organized and that there is a point of utilitarianism in the film. Costello is killed to prevent the rest of generation form impact that may be felt when the same person was still in authority. Enrolling young boy into the systems organized crime is not a good thing, and it is against the normative of the ethics in the region. This presented its deontological effect in the movie. The killing of Costigan still shows the point of deontological events.
