Uses of Logos, Ethos, and Pathos

Logos

The speaker uses Logos, ethos, and also pathos in the speech to deliver the message. The logos are used while she talks of a population of 14%, including teenagers involved in road accidents. From the speech, you can imagine the kind of danger that lies ahead if no action is taken against the teenagers, and they are over speeding. There is also concluded data from the highway authority, which says the younger the teenager, the higher the risk. Statistics also show that teenagers cause more accidents due to less experience and lack of concentration on the road.

Ethos

Through the speech, she uses ethos while concluding that the teenage age should be raised from sixteen to eighteen years to own a driving license. She talks from an expertise point of view since she has done her thorough research and came up with a few solutions that could save more lives. She joins the experts to raise the bar higher and have mentally mature teenagers own driving licenses.

Pathos

The nephew ended up in a wheelchair, and that is a lifetime lifestyle after the other two friends of the nephew died on the spot. The emotional story is used to reveal the use of pathos in the speech. The speaker opens her speech by giving the very emotional story of how life can quickly end due to mistakes that can easily be avoided. The error in over speeding, especially for teenagers, can also easily change their lives for worse. The speaker explains how the nephew, who ended up in a wheelchair, regrets the whole incident, and would do anything to get his life back to normal.

Delivery Choices

In terms of delivery, the speaker had different choices that were effective from the beginning. She started by giving a sad story of teenagers who lost their lives, and another ended up in a wheelchair. These caught the listeners' attention, and they concentrated more to hear what exactly was the cause of the accident and what would have been done differently. The speaker also talks of questionnaires that the students had filled, giving their views, and she delivered her speech based on the responses of the questionnaire. For instance, most talked of how unfair it would be if teenagers of age sixteen were not allowed to enroll for driving classes.

The speaker also delivered the speech by giving factual figures that had been taken the previous year. She explains how the authorities had the statistics that showed how teenagers were careless on the road. She made them understand that if a policy is passed restricting young people from having the full privilege of driving, then the fatalities would be avoided.

Advice to the Speaker

About the speech, I would advise the speaker to make it longer with different examples that the listeners would understand better. Her speech is already excellent, and the delivery mode is okay, but the listeners still need to air their views about what they think would be the best way forward. However, she did her best to bring out the dangers of having teenage drivers who are more than one in a car and more so driving at night.
