Introduction

The text I have chosen is about technology being the answers to the border security upon which the author who has written the content is Henry Cuellar, and the target audience is mainly Americans especially those responsible with ensuring that the border security is. The author undertakes to be frequent contact with the experts in the security field including the Border patrol agents of US and is trying to bring the Trump's Administration to the reality that its decision regarding the building of the permanent wall remains short-sighted as well as cruel. The author advocates for the expansion of the immigration as well as customs enforcement unit that deals with counterterrorism together with criminal exploitation committed to the enforcement of the nonimmigrant visa violations besides provision of the funds needed in executing the Biometric Entry-Exit system all ports of entry. The author is very definite that a secure border with Mexico ought not to become a reality in the absence of investing in modern technological advancement and development regarding border security and the associated personnel. It is equally imperative that the aspect of extending the border security outward be taken into consideration to ensure that American borders remain the last line of guard. The truth of the matter is that there is no need of wasting resources, particularly the American tax dollars on the separation symbol. The focus should be in the fact that the United States and Mexico are and will remain to be great neighbors as well as key trade partners.

Given the constant changes in technology, the more effective means upon which Mexico border would be secure ought to be via investing in modern technology, better coordination with neighbors, and increasing personnel at the border. The article by Henry Cuellar uses ethos, pathos, and logos to discredit the wall.

Ethos

Henry Cuellar starts in the first paragraph of the article to inform the target audience who are Americans in this case that she was born and raised near the American-Mexican border, which is the ethos. It communicates her authenticity and understanding of this matter. She has the experience of having born and lived near the place where the border is, and so she is an authority in this matter. It makes her believable by the audience. Ethos in the first sentence of the first paragraph gets used where she continues to say that she represents some specific miles of that border and hence she has the professional and historical background to be able to understand the real situation regarding the wall. By this, she can convince the American public that when she speaks, they should be able to believe what she says that what Donald Trump says abou6t the wall (Cueller, 2018).

Pathos

In the fourth paragraph, Henry Cuellar says that violent drug cartels use modern technology. The sadness in this part is that she tries to appeal to the emotions of the American public by stating that the cartel is more violent use modern technology. By emphasizing that the cartel that uses advanced technology is more violent is meant to appeal to the emotion of the readers and at the same time discredit the wall because even if the wall is built, according to Henry Cuellar, the violent cartel would still gain American entry (Cueller, 2018).

Logos

In the fourth paragraph, Henry Cuellar appeals to logic. She says that the use of technology would go a long way in detecting illegal trade and illegal immigrants from entering the American border. In the fifth paragraph of her article, she continues to argue that the government should provide the border control with state of the art technologies to detect illegal goods and immigrants at the ports of entry which would be better as opposed to building the wall. In the seventh paragraph of the article, Henry Culler cites the office of the inspector general report that they have a challenge in hiring over 15000 border control agents. It is an appeal to logic, which makes her article more believable. It is meant to convince the American public using figures and facts. The point Henry Cuellar was making was that even if the Country built the wall, it would still be useless and America would again face the same challenge of illegal border trade and illegal immigrants. In essence, it is a waste of public resources. It is a logical appeal, which is the logos in the article (Cueller, 2018).

Conclusion

Henry Cuellar use of Ethos, Logos, and Pathos in the article, which is against the constructions of the border wall, makes it appealing to the American people. She presents herself as an authority, and in a better position to understand the issue of the border wall more than any other person, she then appeals to the emotions of the reader and uses facts and figures to drive her point home.
