Most of us would indeed expect to have a strong tendency to make assumptions about people who are different than ourselves. But after reading the Workforce Diversity Management issues material, I have learned that diversity encompasses persons of varying gender, tenure, cognitive style, age, race, ethnic group, education background, organization function, and many more. I have learned that for any organization to work effectively, everybody in the entire organization has to function effectively. The organization as a whole has to effectively deal with concerns such as change, adaptability, and communication that threatens the inclusivity and diversity of people who we interact with. Thus, this reading material is of great principle to my future assumptions since I can now embrace the professionalism of inclusivity and diversity in my engagement and interaction of people of a different color, race, religion, educational background, ethnic group, and even age.
Discrimination and stereotypes negatively affect the communities we live in. I come from a city that is rich in people of different color, religion, and race. Our education system has taken significant steps to reduce issues related to inequality, discrimination, diversity, and stereotypes. My educational system has embraced transformative work proceeds that have brought a significant impact on us on how we view issues related to discrimination, stereotypes, and diversity. My educational system has embraced the following five phases to address these three issues and include; building trust amongst ourselves, engaging our different personal cultures, confronting matters related to social justice, social dominance and diversity, converting our instructional practices in class and engaging the entire school and community on issues related to discrimination, stereotypes, and diversity.
Conclusion
In all places we look, we can notice the variations in power, status, and wealth. Some individuals have enormous privileges and a higher status than others. The noticeable inequality in the system is referred to as social stratification. Thus, discrimination originates from the unequal social order. Discrimination is based on a variety of characteristics, which include religion, age, gender, weight, politics, and even ethnicity. Discrimination is still rampant today because a lot of people in the community have always seen things wrongly, commonly known as self-talk. People talk ill of other people with little understanding of them. This low self-talk results in prejudice or mindset discrimination. Discrimination exists today also because the traditional patriarchal beliefs promote it. For instance, I have a part-time job in downtown. In my section, we are ten of us, six men and four women. We do similar tasks. Surprisingly, there is gender wage discrimination in my department. Men are paid more than women, despite all of us performing the same functions. Thus, it is evident discrimination exists in my working place. There is wage inequality along gender lines.
