Introduction
Socioeconomic status is referred to as an individual’s position on the scale of social-economic that measures factors like the type of occupation, education, place of residence, religion, income, and heritage. Low social-economic status environments cause resource depletion, including the material ones and social where this includes employment, marriage, and family. The diminishing of reserve capacities and depletion of resources can foster loss helices. Lower social-economic status encompasses more significant acquaintances to environmental stressors, which produce less positive and more negative effects. This paper discusses how my socioeconomic status, race, gender, and other life conditions, as well as experiences, have shaped my health outcomes, access to healthcare, relationships with health professionals, or health perceptions and illness.
Low Socioeconomic Status
Due to my low socioeconomic status, I have not been able to access better healthcare. Every individual's socioeconomic status is vital in life since it has a significant effect on physical health, the ability to get adequate medical care, nutrition, and life expectancy. However, this has been a prime social determinant of my health outcome. Due to lack of money, I have not managed to get proper medication hence resulting in various chronic conditions compared to other people. Additionally, this has led to many other health issues due to a lack of finances to purchases healthy foods essential for improving health conditions. Wealth and income distribution can be essential predictors of a person’s risks of sustaining an injury or contracting disease. It can also be used to indicate how susceptible that person is to the disease and illness consequences. Due to my lower socioeconomic status, I have experienced lower overall health levels, less access to better health care, and less insurance coverage leading to a poor health outcome.
Lack of income has limited access to health professionals. Money shortage may expose individuals to stress, and they feel out of control because it becomes hard to connect with experts who are experienced in various health conditions. Some of the facilities with quality attendance, such as private hospitals, may be hard to access due to high costs. Some private hospitals specialize in some health conditions. Without adequate money, one may remain in poor health conditions hence leading to death because some services are costly depending on the facility. As a result, my level of income has affected the ability to access health care experts hence shaping my health outcome in the wrong direction.
Adequate Income
An adequate income helps individuals to feel in control and avoid stress to access experienced professionals and medicines to maintains as well as adopt healthy behaviors. High income makes one feel reinforced by a financial wellbeing net. Through these mechanisms, individuals are able to access the needed opportunities for a better healthy life. These opportunities include secure housing, meaningful work, along with high self-esteem, and all these affects long-term physical as well as mental health.
There are various gender-based differences in health access since the attendants may be against a certain gender. As a result, this has been a challenge to many people due to fear of discrimination. When people notice that a certain gender is not attended well in a particular hospital, they may fear going there no matter the charges because of the gender. However, this has affected hence shaping the healthcare access since one may lack the ability to access health facilities that are far due to lack of money, and money may decide to remain under poor condition leading to increased illness. Nevertheless, this has been contributed by the men as well as women roles that are constructed and the relationship existing between them. Norms such as mortality, health behavior, healthy life, and life expectancy influence the wellbeing conditions people are susceptible to, and uptake along with access to health services.
Additionally, people can face inadequate health care because of their race. Nevertheless, this has affected my health perspective because one may not know how is friendly to which race. However, it is appropriate to give every person good care attention without considering the differences among the patients.
Conclusion
In conclusion, several things have shaped my health outcome, perception, relationship with healthcare experts, and access to healthcare. Socioeconomic is one of the main factors due to lack of finances. Gender, race, level of income, and education have also contributed to poor health outcomes due to poor access to healthcare. It has been a challenge to connect with healthcare experts who can provide adequate healthcare.
