Introduction
Processing information during motor learning is critical. Motor learning is a combination of processes that are aimed at teaching skills and refining old ones through practice (Spampinato & Celnik,2017). It is highly dependent on both the fitness of the physical structure and the cognitive aspects of the learner. There has been a discovery that retrieval of information especially among people suffering from mental illnesses is difficult, as these diseases impact the motor activities. Teaching movements in soccer require both cognitive and physical fitness. It needs an application of questions to the trainees, to determine the effectiveness of their memory. It shall inform the coach on the possible time it will take for the trainee to master the skills. Ball control is a critical skill for learners of soccer. This movement requires the coordination of cognitive abilities and physical elements.
Information Processing
Information processing in motor learning is backed up by the developmental psychologist’s theories. They asserted that people have a complex cognitive development, and they process information received before responding. Humans had been earlier classified as merely responding to stimuli (Byrne & J.H,2017). The theory explains the cognitive complexities of a human being as those of a computer, which analyses and manipulate information. Information –processing models are centered on the attention and its mechanisms, manipulation of information received, and the storage of such information for future retrieval. The understanding of the Ball control skill requires the ability of the trainee to listen and assess the information being given.There is the information passed by opponents during the match, while others can communicate through signs and gestures.
Skill Display and Filter Issues
I would use testing analytical skills as an example of testing for a skill display and filter issues. An ability to remember how movements are coordinated is not only done in soccer. Analytical skills are demanded in the global industries and are added in the description of jobs. They are important elements in the investigation of complex issues, making decisions, and developing strategies for the companies. I would screen the trainee for the ability to have analytical thinking when observing a problematic situation (Papale & Hooks, 2018). I would ask several questions on his fitness and ask what he would do if there were situations that required the skill in the field. I would know the ability of the person being tested too, gather informational develop solutions, to help in the farther understanding of the problem, and applying it in the application of the movements, would indicate a strong possession of analytical thinking. I would pick a mathematical question or any topic of problem, to set the question. The major element in critical thinking is the ability of an individual to filter out information, by establishing the cause and the effects of two relating factors. It would be useful when the training of the movement is practiced in real life out in the field.
Short-term Memory Processes
Short term memory in motor learning refers to the memories that are not expected to last past thirty minutes. They are meant to be useful for a short period unless the learner rehearses it to reinforce the memory. To train a person to develop and test this skill I would base my selected questions on the Miller theory that suggests that humans can have a memory of up to seven random items, depending on several factors.
The test would find out if the trainees ability to remember any information for a short time, especially throughout the raining time. I would introduce a set of numbers or a phone number to the individual to find out if they can remember them. The individual under the test would not write them down and would not have to listen to the numbers repeatedly. I would apply the same on the quick moves of the thigh chest and the feet when catching the ball before attempting to balance.
Long-term Memory and Retrieval
Long term memory in the process of motor learning is described as the store of the information, for longer periods ranging from few moments, days, and even for a lifetime. My training and testing of the ability of an individual to have long term memory and an ability to remember and retrieve information are based on the following facts (Kafri & Atun-Einy, 2019). The fact that the long term memory originates from the subconscious mind and not the working memory, known as the conscious mind. The memories at the subconscious mind are not equally retrieved, as they depend on the impact that an event or an action had on the emotion of the individual. Weaker memories can be replaced quicker by stronger ones, as they are often reinforced.
I would ask the individual to tell me about events of the past or a set of instructions practiced several years ago, regarding physical fitness and soccer. His ability to answer them right with accuracy, paying attention to color, time, and the feelings associated with the events, would mean that the person has strong long term memories and an ability to retrieve. The questions I would use would cover three forms of long term memories, with questions, covering the explicit memory and the implicit memories. For the explicit memories, I would ask questions that are not permanently in the subconscious mind, but some from the consciousness such as the knowledge of the month of the year. The questioning would help determine the success of the training when the trainee gets exposed to the physical training both in the room and out in the field. I would demonstrate players in charts holding the ball in control, the position of their feet, and use multiple videos to support the internalization of the move.
Reinforcement/Motivation
In motor learning, reinforcement is the process by which the occurrence of the desired behavior is increased. The incident should be measurable. It involves the offering of rewards based on an activity performed, or punished for not. Training for the move in catching and controlling the ball skill requires that the trainee receives some kind of an award for the ability to follow the right procedures (Raiola, 2017). I can introduce a gift to offer the trainee after a successful day of ball control movement and skill.
Key Internal Reinforcement
Internal reinforcement emerges from the inside of the individual as opposed to any agent of reinforcement from outside. It is possible to note this after and individual performs a task and has the willpower to repeat doing it again because of its sense of pride( Henderson. et al, 2018). The main method of instilling reinforcing the skill, in the trainee, to ensure maximum gains from the skill, is through awakening their internal motives. I would always encourage the trainee during the training to develop a goal and pursue it. In the final sessions, I would tell them about my passion for soccer and the need to be a star in the field. It would act as a motivation for the trainee.
Key External Reinforcement
They are factors that reinforce the behavior of an individual from outside. The method that I would use to discover the efficiency of the external reinforcement used on an individual, I would inquire to understand the rewards that they received, to behave in a manner they do (Bellemare. et al, 2016). This will work in the form of rewarding the trainee for high performance in mastering the catch, control, and dribble.
