Multiprogramming is an essential aspect of the operating system. TSI, in the case, uses a single processor whose primary function is to carry out the single processing for any given program at a given time. It takes the operating principles that resemble more of the First In First Out approach. Similarly, organizations that use single processors with no multiprogramming suffer the business challenges of time and resource wastage. Organizations relying on the operation of substantial programs face the challenge of excessive waiting times as the large programs and applications tend to have bottleneck effects on activities. As a result, some resources, especially those dealing with small executions, will remain inactive, awaiting the completion of the larger ones. Therefore, the lack of multiprogramming slows down operations, trying to finish several. Few activities are achieved when employing these operating systems in an organization, thereby reducing the deliverables attained and business goals accomplished daily.
TSI OS cannot accommodate over one processor on a single device. The organization does not have multiple processors that are critically essential when performing two or more tasks or processes simultaneously. Organizations that seek to use the TSI OS and still have various processing capacity will have to incur additional costs in the form of upgrades of the multicore or dual-core processors. The single-processor system applied by the TSI OS is disadvantageous to organizations as it reduces the ultimate speeds of operations. The organizations will have, at one point, to face the business-challenge associated with the costs of upgrading the system. Multiprocessing is vital as they double the output of the system, which in turn increases organizational productivity (Tanenbaum & Bos, 2015). Lack of multiple processing, therefore, lowers output and economic values of the processes in the organization.
The speed and accuracy of any system are the primary determinants of the perfect functionality of the system. The nature and type of the programming, processing, and threading plays a central role in this speed and accuracy of a system. Organizations that rely heavily on IT and technological applications perform best with multiprocessing, multiprogramming, and multithreading. All these are interconnected and helps in increasing the speed, accuracy, and overall output of the company. Inaccurate computation, timing, and poor management resulting from the poor performance of the system can cause severe business-related challenges to the organization. For instance, TSI OS lacks Multithreading, which is vital when availed through the caches, making them accessible fast and efficiently through the available registers of the cache.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, the business-related challenges resulting from the application of the TSI OS relates to the aspect of multiprogramming, multiprocessing, and multithreading, among other issues such as security and flexibilities. All these play a significant role in the determination of the viability of the system in the business’s context. Multiprocessing and multiprogramming are essential in the decision of the processes and programs that a system can work with comfortably. The absence of multiprocessing and multiprogramming means that a business will be wasting useful resources and time as one program or process blocks others from execution. The time factor, compatibility issues relating to programs and programming, as well as the essential upgrades required for multiprocessing and multiprogramming, translates to financial costs required by an organization. Therefore, they directly relate to the economic challenges that the organization faces.
