Honesty is a crucial component in many interactions, both formal and informal. Relationships are determined by the level of integrity among the partners. In this case, establishing a precise and reliable level of respect and ethical considerations among the partners and a state of transparency are deemed necessary in ensuring smooth and trustworthiness in daily undertakings. On the list of core values sustaining relationships, honesty ranks among the top values calling for honesty to oneself and others as a critical foundation to stable relationships. An evaluation of the effects of lack of integrity on relationships will be presented in this paper with a glimpse on the causes to some of the questionable integrity concerns impacting on the various results reflected.
Cementing trustworthiness is crucial in cementing healthy and working relationships. This implies that a lack of trust can lead to doubts among partners and resultantly harm relationships. Doubt can be considered as the first stage of distrust. Uncertainty in events and expectations are presented and questioned. In some cases, it is difficult to doubt some individuals, and therefore pointing a finger may seem difficult to address on exact times (Conley, 2014). Continued doubt may yield suspicion.
Suspicion develops from unresolved doubt. Lack of integrity and accountability to certain sensitive matters in a relationship may serve as belief without proof and therefore increases tension in any relationship. Increased tension and uncertainty hamper the smooth working of any relationship. A continued pattern in behavior that presents a question on the trust level among partners but derailed with lack of evidence may lead to a search for proof and therefore compromise the commitment to the relationship (Goldsmith, 2014). Suspicion may advance to extreme levels and couple to anxiety, which is characterized by the feeling of apprehension or uneasiness, which is commonly physically manifested. Anger, nervousness, and disgust may be expressed when dealing with someone who seems to be dishonest.
One of the common factors that contribute to uncertainty and dishonesty is the need to protect partners from some issues. This impacts in shaving or dressing the truth in a way that it does not affect the other people in the relationship. However, the dishonest builds a blind spot which is exploited by the partners in the event of the truth coming out. In some cases, some people get it challenging to present 100% truth with the attempt of protecting loved ones from the painful reality. However, this is linked to the notion that the partners cannot withstand the fact. Stories are developed as a cover-up of the truth or a justification for the cover-up, which is believed to be the way out of the painful truth (Rich, 2011). Shaving the fact may sound a noble act as it aims at protecting particular individuals but may also hurt the feelings of those people in case the truth comes out later.
On the contrary, there is a doubt on the motive of hiding the truth. Is the cover-up meant to protect the other person or for personal protection? According to Conley (2014), laying out the bare truth may implicate a different image of the individual relaying the information. In some cases, hiding of the truth is not entirely limited to the integrity concerns but the unconscious feeling that the other part may not be able to handle the truth. In this case, one may act passionately to in sparing the honest feelings.
The detrimental part is the omission of the color of truth in most relationships. Some lies are meant to reduce the impact of grief, but in the long run, the lies may turn up as time bomb which may detonate later. Lies eliminates and reduces trust in families and limits the energy in navigating the ups and downs in life (Rich, J. (2011). Sticking together and sharing the truth, both hard and good signifies the ability of the family to stand together in various life situations. However, hiding the truth may as well increase suspicion, insecurity, and fear. Therefore, according to Rich (2011), honesty serves as a prescription for comfort as the assurance of trusting a mate allows one to achieve the best, boost trust and therefore thrive the relationship due to the positive energy yielded.
Conclusion
In conclusion, certainty in trusting a mate eliminates worry and result in build up in the internal security that parades the progress of the relationship. The good feeling between the partners yielded from the high integrity also boost the feeling of life among the mates. In some cases, it can be argued that integrity in relationships creates a buffer between an individual and the worldly difficulties. In this case, it is more comfortable taking risks as well as growing individual and collectively in a relationship. Therefore, it can be justified that honesty is a way of life and not just a behavior which reflects in better experiences in a relationship and eliminates the bad. The feeling that partners can trust each other brings freedom and comfort, which serve as a pillar to the relationship.
