A common factor among all successful people is that they purposed and worked hard to realize the success they wield. Be it in the career or corporate world, the academia and even the sports world, successful individuals push the limits of success, overcoming many barriers along the way. In doing so, there are many setbacks, challenges and failures that present. The level of success of these people lies in how they overcome these issues. These issues can potentially demotivate and demoralize them and result in total failure, unless the individuals choose to remain resilient and motivated (Brown, 2012). This paper seeks to investigate how successful people become motivated a long their journey in their diverse fields.
To remain motivated, successful people define and clearly understand their 'Why.' This is the purpose behind their actions. The purpose behind what they do and their conviction that they can realize success in the endeavors drives their actions. Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Inc., one of the world's biggest companies, was known to ask himself every morning, "If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I'm about to do today?". The question was significant as it helped him focus on his purpose and in doing so, he built one of the most admired brands in the world.
Remaining focused on the bigger picture is another way to remain motivated. Successful people create the highest vision possible, and concentrate their entire focus on its realization. In the course of pursuing their dreams, there are days when all of us feel down, demotivated, sick, frustrated or simply bored. Focusing on the big picture on such days is a critical way to remain on course and motivated. When pursuing success becomes a habit, the demotivating factors are overlooked and there is a focus on the bigger picture of success.
Thomas Edison, one of America's greatest inventors and the inventor of the incandescent light, is quoted to have said, "I have not failed. I have just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Only motivated individuals can move from one level of uncertainty to the next and still remain hopeful of striking success. As success involves overcoming many failures, successful people choose to disregard the failures, and rather focus on continuous improvement on their processes until they realize success. Improvements ensure that the end product after the iterations is superior and this is the underlying factor behind the success of these individuals (Brown, 2012).
To further remain motivated, successful people surround themselves with factors and catalysts that motivate them to work and realize their goals. Choosing positive interactions with others and drawing inspiration from other successful people, for instance, increases their drive and energizes them to realize success. In addition to learning from other successful people and role models, reading books and watching inspiration content are also good catalysts. Fundamentally, however, successful people look inwards for motivation and inspiration. By building a strong and resilient self, they are able to overcome the barriers that come their way. Much of this resilience is drawn from the passion they have in what they do (Rampton, 2017).
Conclusion
Finally, successful people develop and stick to healthy habits in whatever they do. The journey to success takes a toll on one's physical, emotional and mental wellbeing and successful people build resilience in all these areas.
