Campus is one of the places that each person, growing up, dreams of being at some point. That is because of the various benefits that college promises an individual. It is not limited the vast making networks, gaining knowledge and getting to acquire skills from a pool of experts that are not easily accessed out of campus. However, despite the various benefits that one may gain from university, many issues may make the campus an undesirable place to be. That is because of the problem that an individual might be facing. In this case, the problem highlighted is stress among students. Stress can be defined as the emotional or mental state by an individual that results from adverse conditions in their environment (Selye, 1956). That leads to the individual being with an unsettled mind, hence being referred to as stress. In campus, various issues might cause stress among the students; some are within their control while others are way beyond their ability to control.

Based on interviews with students, one of the major causes of stress at school is related to finances. In many campuses, life is quite expensive, and the students have a limited source of income; hence they are not able to meet all their financial needs comfortably. That leads to them worrying a lot about the uncertainty that is caused by the lack of finances, hence leading to high-stress levels among them (Gomathi & Sreedharan, 2013). Furthermore, social relations are another contribution of stress among the students. The environment in schools may be characterized by people that are not socially compatible with an individual; hence they struggle to make any meaningful and reliable relationships. In the long run, there is a high level of stress on the students. Unemployment is the other issue, according to the students, that causes stress, as they are not quite sure whether they will get a job immediately after they graduate. That causes mental distress, as they will face a lot of pressure to make ends meet, hence contributing to the high-stress levels to students on campus (Negga et al., 2007). Many issues contribute towards high stress levels such as poor services at the university, nature and complexity of studies and to some, family issues.

When you engage the counselling department at many campuses, there are very few students that come forward to have their stress situation assessed. That is because they do not believe that counselling is capable of relieving the high level of stress that they have. However, among the few cases handled, the students are always lamenting about issues being out of their control, and there is little or no help that they can receive to remedy the situation (Ross et al.,1999). Hence, some of them turn to drugs and other decisions to help them relieve the high levels of stress. What is at stake is the welfare of the students, as they end up performing poorly in academics, and having poor social lives. Moreover, the type of choices they make is not the greatest, as they are not well-thought-out because they are under stress. Thus, the students are advised to seek the services of experts to find lasting solutions to issues that cause high stress levels (Greenberg, 2012). With proper intervention, the stress among the students on campus can be solved.
