Introduction

Indian Five Nations Confederacy also known as the Iroquois Confederacy was a united association of five linguistically related tribes in the northeastern woodlands in the period A.D. 1200. These nations included Seneca, Onondaga, Cayuga, Mohawk. And Oneida. The objectives of the uniting process that was performed under the "Great Tree of Peace" were based on a pledge by each nation that they could not engage in any war with one another. The sixth nation, Tuscarora, was allowed to be part of the associated in around 1720 (Foner 15). The confederacy affiliates denoted to themselves as the Haudenosaunee, which translated to "People of the Longhouse". These members employed a matriarchically hierarchy with a strong executive that helped in governing themselves and other associate nations.

The introduction of Europeans into their territories has provided the Six Countries with new opportunities to grow their power by becoming a sole superpower in the manufacturing industry. Initially, their principal commercial partners were the French, who then became English after the Spanish lost their land rights to England America in 1660 (Foner 21). As a result, the Six Nations were friends of the French. This devotion was first and foremost attributed to the actions of one man, Sir William Johnson. Johnson was an Irish immigrant who spent most of his life in the Mohawk Valley, contributing to the incorporation in Indian culture.

The influx of Europeans into their territory gave the six nations with new opportunities to increase their influence by becoming the sole power of the manufacturing industry. Initially, their main trading allies were the French, who then became English after the Spanish surrendered their land rights to England in America in 1660 (Foner 44). As a result, the Six Nations become French allies. This dedication was first and foremost due to the actions of a sole person, Sir William Johnson. Johnson was an Irish immigrant who spent most of his life in the Mohawk Valley, contributing to the integration of Indian culture.

The Aftermath of the Revolutionary War on the Indian Confederacy and Culture

The Revolutionary war left the Indian confederacy and culture traumatized, and their land destroyed. Most Indian members started following the ways of the lives of the Americans. They began expanding the political nation, which affected the way the confederacy was being run. Pope stared becoming hungry for power, which affected the stability that had been established for a long time (Foner 50). New constitutions were formed afterward, which changed their earlier way of governance. Also, new religions were created that later led to the establishment of religious freedom in the Indian confederacy.
