Art primarily deals with the study of objects and style. Art history, thus, deals with the historical advancement and modification of art. Art consists of several contexts for further education, such as; design, formatting, genres, and different styles. The artwork, on the other hand, involves the cultural practices by people in art, and therefore, art history. When evaluating art history, time is a significant factor that defines how the art came into existence and how fast and rapid its growth has been noticed. Art has developed over the years from ancient times through the Renaissance era and now, into the Modern period.
Art led to different inventions, such as; photography. Through the invention of photography, changes in paintings were noticed (Kreinik). Photography is said to have been invented in the period around the 19th century, around the year 1840, to be specific. This period is characterized by the invention and creation of the world's first camera, which was invented specifically for commercial purposes. Photography enhanced and helped in the multiple reproductions of art objects. Photography was a crucial element in reproducing art objects and, thus, it led to further art improvements and success related to art.
Also, photography led to the visualization of the culture of art. Photography changed the visual perception of the society that was in existence. Through changes in the visual culture, photography made art relevant to the general public and that now, art was easily accessible for people to practice the culture of artwork("How The Invention Of Photography Changed Art - Pearey Lal Bhawan"). Through all these, photography did change the negative thoughts, perceptions, and notions that people had against art, which thus made them more knowledgeable on the benefits and relevance of art as a culture.
According to the Indian visuals of art, photographs that were of essence are those that consisted of paintings. During the invention of photography into art in India, there was a realization of different other forms of art, such as; paintings, sculptures, and drawings. As a result of the invention of photography, the Indian artists were then able to realize and come up with abstractions, cubism, pointillism, among other designs that came into existence as a result of photography (Kreinik). Photography also helped the Indian artists in technological development, specifically through the internet and computer. With the internet, computers, among other gadgets in place, there was media development in addition to installations based on electronics.
Photography has since then helped in making artwork cheaper and easier to practice since taking a photograph of portrait form is much more comfortable and affordable as compared to the traditional art ("How The Invention Of Photography Changed Art - Pearey Lal Bhawan"). Therefore, photography has since helped the Indian artists in the digital advancements since they are now able to create appearances in paint form and then print them on canvas through digital means. Indian artists are now able to share their artworks with other artists and people across the world through digital platforms, and this has been a success through photography where the artists take photographs of their works and post them on digital platforms, such as on the internet.
Therefore, the development of photography in India has changed the traditional art that Indian artists were used. There is no longer the painting of portraits, but that the artists are now able to access digital photography, which is cheaper and more reliable as compared to traditional art.
However, even with the invention of photography and how cost-effective and flexible it is, some Indian artists still don't trust photography and its relevance; instead, they still work traditionally. In this case, the artists are still stagnant in their artwork and are not able to cope with the changes in the culture of art. Other artists, though, have reacted quickly to the cultural differences and the technological developments relating to art. Thus, technology has impacted a lot in the development of art. It has made materials of art more affordable and readily available for artists to use (Hariman et al. 40). With technology resulting from photography, the artists are now able to view arts from other cultures all over across the globe, whether traditional art or modern art.
It has also enabled the artists to share their artwork with much ease and that are now able to make travels to different destinations with their photographs quickly and more quickly. Moreover, it is believed that painting was the highest art form. The picture is referred to as historical painting, and also mythological painting (Hariman et al. 39). This is based on the reasoning that; paintings did depict a more imaginary world a camera cannot describe. There is one form of art that looks almost exactly like a photograph known as a photorealistic painting.
This form of painting requires a more specialized and technical skill, which is almost impossible to acquire. Even though some Indian artists believed in paintings than in photographs, they still are aware of the relevance and advantages of photography over paintings. Therefore, it is fair to say that with the invention of photography, painting culture has been declining over the years since more artists are striving to adopt photography, which is a cheaper and more accessible form of art (Kreinik).
Furthermore, due to the development of technology, photography has become a more flexible and reliable form of art for Indian artists and artists around the world to implement. With this in place, there will be development in art.
