Video one; Becoming an American
The movie 'Becoming and America' is a film that gives the viewers the image of how hard it can sometimes be to be in a foreign country. Its background information consists of program timelines, summaries, and bibliographies. The films also aid people to imagine how complicated relationships can be people from different nationality and ethnic identity. The prompt materials also discuss the process of adjusting from a Chinese citizen to acquiring the American citizen. The film also shows how the Chinese struggled and suffered upon entering America and how they became successful after a few years. This video will narrate the success of China in America
Based on my understanding, the experience in the film can meet several classroom needs. It can give both the students and teachers various themes like tolerance, assimilation, identity, and citizenship. The summary and bibliographies provided will also allow teachers and students to have the more profound depth of discussion concerning the mixture of different cultures. The movie also integrates the sequence and scope of the American history, which are reading being done in class now. The topic also focuses how various multi-cultures met for a universal need. This we see how the desire for the Chinese going to America brought other changes that made Americans welcome the Chinese instead of being rebellious as they were initially.
My reflection is the use of this film assists us to face the truth about the past in several countries because it primarily focuses on the date, location and how colonization ended. I feel that more in-depth explanations of the movie would have been beneficial by adding more challenges faced by the Chinese and how successful they became after a while. All in all the film gives excellent insights why the mixture in different culture brings new development.
Video two; The Making of the Asian America
The film shows how the Asian Americans were in a constant cycle between becoming bad or good Asians based on the political shift bind their settlement after immigration. During that time the group which was a minority was threatened by the whites because they were believed to have valorized America's meritocracy promise. With time, the Asian Americans later divided themselves and settled in the Northern East and South East Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific Islands. In the Asian and Pacific Island, the Asian Americans multiplied in large number making about a third of the world population. In these, this group never shared a common language neither did they have a common religion
The film leaves someone with the impression that it's never good to judge a book by its cover because we never know the benefits of anything. For instance, they build the first railway stations, established farms; the Korean American came up with a mutation of peaches and farms and challenged the San Francisco system to neutralize the culture. With such few examples, the growth of America is also facilitated by the Asian Americans because they were believed to be smarter and got well-paying jobs than the Americans
It is fascinating to see how foreigners can be beneficial despite the fact that they are coming with new ideas. It is essential that such people should always be given a chance to see what they have in mind. Some of them come with new technology; some new farming ideas and other develop new industries. Multi-culture is beneficial when two sets of races combine to create new ideas that promote a country.
