When setting up a service project, managers ought to know the main aim of the activity and what change it intends to bring. There are also challenges that the project faces in working across borders, for example, working with a virtual team of trusted people and a clear understanding of different role and responsibilities. However, managing across cultures and borders calls for a work of faith that represents God's deeds that will be beneficial to the larger population. My service project is the African Community International whose mission is to offer services that support Africans and enhance active participation and connection in American society and their homeland. My service mirrored the character of Jesus Christ through actions that involved a faithful, and informed service of care and helping the community out of an excellent righteous heart.
In embodying the spirit of Jesus Christ, as an organization, we take seriously the service of offering assistance such as the provision of social services, training, and legal counseling, among others. In Mathew chapter 23, the Jesus Christ pieces of advice that every action should be done in service and exaltation of Jesus Christ. The exaltation should only be understood through the book of 2nd Peter Chapter 1 that talks about fist having the knowledge of Jesus Christ that will help to live in goodness and kindness to our fellow brethren. Through the knowledge of Jesus Christ, the organization spreads love through helping despite cultural diversities (Wells and Quash, 2017).
African Community international also mirrored the works of Christ through the truth of Jesus Christ, and goodness, which was expressed through helping in the prevention of violence and other community services such as empowerment of the youth. According to Deresky (2017), initiatives that do not involve in corruption may be disadvantaged at times, but when the leadership is for Christ, the Christ is for us. The projects that involved prevention of violence called for understanding and embracing fast different cultures and uniting them together by peace and participation in activities considered as care by the word of God (Birch et al., 2018). One such project is a community initiative within the Indiana community whose primary purpose was to connect people through trade in different goods and services. The initiative involved mentoring the youth and empowering of practical skills that help them be more competitive in both the local and international market.
This African Center initiative also focused on helping other vulnerable African-born individuals within the Indiana community through the provision of sustainable solutions and connection with African countries through vacations. The bible quotes in 1 Timothy Chapter 6 verse 11 (New International Version), that "But, you man of God flee from all these and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, and endurance." Leadership that imitates Jesus Christ requires that the project managers develop endurance and that they should uphold righteousness, love, and godliness. Therefore, through love and the fruits of a clean godly heart, the service ensured that more than 50% of able people in the community are involved in sustainable programs (African Community International). Also, all year round the project offers the chance to those who would love to connect with Africa with various purposes such as research or business.
For decades the African Community international has been involved with community work that is of benefit to all members of the African community. Jesus Christ calls upon all believers to become active actors of the word, represent him in service. Christians achieve this through faith. Jesus Christ endured the struggles and lived a godly life; therefore, through him, we capture the direction we need to follow in developing projects that are sustainable and have the community at heart.
