The world today is facing a significant challenge following the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic. Almost every country in the globe has had to deal with the ravaging menace of COVID-19. Blythe, California is no different, with COVID-19 cases rising every single day and risking the lives of most people in the area, including prisoners. Amid the spread of COVID-19, Blythe’s residents and the people of the United States are protesting the murder of George Floyd and the continued police brutality among the black people.

I think that this year has been one of the toughest years in the lifetime of most people. Uncertainties have been on the rise due to the raging pandemic and the increased racism in the United States. Blythe is a town in Riverside County in California. The country’s current COVID-19 cases are 10,490, with the number of deaths rising to 351 (Hayden et al. n.p). In addition to that, the region is at risk of further infections after a prison staff in Blythe tested positive for COVID-19. Notably, over 991 male inmates have tested positive, which further increases the risk of transmission within the prison facilities (Hayden et al. n.p). The situation of rising COVID-19 cases does not seem to have a downward trend. Experts claim that the outbreak of this pandemic in Blythe is the large in correctional systems (Hayden et al. n.p). Most residents of the area longed for reopening and continued functioning of businesses despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases.

It was only recently that the government allowed for the opening of motels, gyms, bars, wineries, and theaters under guidelines of maintaining social distance. I believe that a time when a region and a country have to deal with a ravaging pandemic threatening the lives of everyone, people should be more united than ever. However, this is not the case since, surprisingly, police are still discriminating against the black people evident from the murder of George Floyd and other blacks in America at the time of this outbreak. I feel that these murders were inhumane, and the ongoing protests in California and parts of America are valid. Recently, there were claims that police had been mishandling protestors in Blythe and the California region. Regardless of their use of brutality and force on the minorities, the police have the audacity of using force to calm the protestors. I wonder when America would change and appreciate that everyone is equal regardless of skin color.

I believe it is time to end these injustices faced by minority populations. During these challenging times, we should love each other and correct our mistakes. The measures taken to prevent further spread of COVID-19, such as social distancing and the wearing of masks, is an act of love since abiding by these decisions means preventing infecting other people with the virus. Similarly, the same love should be shared by treating every individual equally and joining in the fight to end institutionalized discrimination in the United States finally. It is time to set our differences aside and strategize on the best ways to survive these trying times in America and the world.

Conclusion

To conclude, Blythe, California, and the entire American region has various issues to handle, which include the COVID-19 pandemic and increased cases of police brutality. Amidst the rising cases of COVID-19, police still discriminate against the people of color by killing them and humiliating them in all ways possible. I believe that the rise of COVID-19 in America is a wakeup call for Americans to end racism and unite if they were to defeat and conquer the hazardous effects of this pandemic.
