It is not all leaders who show excellent leadership attributes. Therefore, people get advised not to follow leaders blindly. The kind of leaders of the groups explained in the chapter by Simon do not show the perfect example of leadership. Sharp, a mountaineer, suffers a lonely death as witnessed through reading the article. Members of the climbing team led by Brice claim they saw Sharp in his condition and relayed the information to the group leader. The human being gets guided by critical ethical and moral characteristics. Russel Brice's critical determination is getting the ascent and descent from the mountain complete. He doesn't observe the moral or ethical attributes, which would direct him to initiate a change of course to rescue Sharp. Too much ambition in getting the job done makes leaders forget some sense of humanity. So, leaders with such personalities are not the best to follow.

Members of both groups show high compliance levels. Their key focus is beating the mountain. Several legal obligations govern the mountaineering groups, amongst the features expected include resilience, personal accountability and ambition to conquer the challenge. In the course of the mountain climbing activity, members of the group complied and trusted their leaders' instructions. A successful mountain climbing expedition is the dream and vision of any climber. Just like in the organizational structure, they are getting the institution's objectives and goals done successfully is the primary purpose and responsibility of the workforce. A leader whose direction gets steered in the same way the employees get envisioned gets the compliance of the workers. Sharp gets blamed for lack of self-accountability. People believed that he should have adequately prepared for the climb. The groups on the mountain in compliance with the leadership in charge of their adventure accomplished their mission.

Control is an essential and very crucial element any person in a leadership capacity should uphold. In the article, various core traits that the ultimate leader should have to get addressed. These admirable personalities help create a culture of harmony and compliance within the groups of mountaineers. Achievement orientation, power motivation, stress tolerance and energy level describe the leadership of the groups discussed. Mostly, leadership goes beyond formal functions and responsibilities or roles. The core focus of any leader involves ensuring the critical acceptance of the aims and visions of the group members - the groups on the mountain exhibit different leadership situations and diversified leadership levels. Group loyalty and self-control get evident in that none of the members abandoned the course or diverted their attention from it. Encompassed in the faith the members had in their leader, the climb saw a success. Besides, the culture of compliance within the group and leadership confidence guides a loyal and self-controlled membership.

In the chapter by Simon shows different types of leaders and leadership levels. Also, the mountaineers discussed they portray extremely varied personalities. On the one hand, there exist too much ambitious and focused on completing the climb that they didn't consider to rescue Sharp. Both the Turkish team and the group under Brice forego their moral and ethical obligations to save Sharp. On the other end, we read of an investment banker who embarked on a trek through the famous Himalayas. In his final climb, he met a holy man who was anguishing from hypothermia. He faced the dilemma of either treating the sadhu or achieving the completion of his ascent. Finally, both the holy man and Sharp ended up suffering the same fate of death. Also, another climber from New Zealand gets shown to being resilient. He suffered many accidents while climbing, leaving him to use artificial legs. All these mountaineers have the same goal of accomplishing the ascents, and all accomplish their missions in different ways and face different challenges along their way.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Simon questions the perception of headship as a sole obligation. Sharp's case helps us widen our thinking and understanding of diverse leadership methodologies. Both Brice and the Turkish group leader got the chance to weigh between saving David Sharp and organizational purpose of completing the mountain climb. However, basic human instinct should get governed by morality and ethical awareness. Saving Sharp seems the right call of action to go. People should be encouraged to observe basic human morals other than focusing on accomplishing simple, earthy endeavors. Higher credit should get given to people who uphold their moral values even when facing tough situations.
