Introduction
Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to the extensive branch of computer science whose primary concern is to establish smart machines with the capability of doing tasks that usually need human intelligence (Russell & Norvig, 2016). It is a science interdisciplinary with various approaches, but deep learning and machine advancements are establishing a pattern shift in nearly every sector of the technological industry. Examples of AI include; the robot, which consists of a sensor system, motor, a mobile physical structure, and a computer "brain," which controls all the other elements. Robots tend to be manmade, and they usually replicate animal or human behavior. Another type is the Tesla self-driving and self-parking, which makes the Tesla vehicles to steer, brake, and accelerate in their lanes and in different paths and even park. Lastly, there is the uber self-driving, which is an autonomous car with combined software and sensors to enable it to navigate, control, and drive the vehicle as it ferries individuals.
How AI Affects our Life
There are various amazing ways in which AI is affecting our everyday lives. For instance, the robots are now able to perform most of the tasks which used to be completed by humans in the past. For example, there are robotic versions of human organs and the humanoid robots which have been used in the hospitals to help in training our doctors and medical students as they practice treatment and diagnosis (Poola, 2017). These robots are also performing hazardous tasks since they are able to go to places where the human being cannot go like during nuclear accidents where the robots identify survivors and any other problem. This type of AI is also doing some tasks which humans are afraid of taking, like sewer inspections, where they are helpful to the sanitation departments as they use them to head to the sewer lines. As for the Tesla self-driving and self-parking vehicles as well as the uber self-driving, they are affecting our lives in that they help in parking and in driving the vehicle. According to Poola (2017), these vehicles use the AI subset, deep learning, which helps them in recognizing the spaces around the car. This is because these vehicles have been given the power to learn, think, and see by the technology companies; hence, they can navigate in almost infinite ranges of the possible driving scenarios. Such types of vehicles have revolutionized how individuals operate by enabling the vehicles to do the driving themselves.
Most Immediate Risks Posed by AI
Despite some of the positive impacts associated with AI, this form of technology poses severe risks to human beings, which increases as the level of autonomy and AI intelligence increases. This is because this technology is programmed to do devastating things. For instance, the autonomous weapon robots which have been designed to kill. If these robots fall in the hands of the wrong person, they can lead to mass casualties. Additionally, the AI alarm race can also cause an AI war hence causing mass causalities (Bergsten & Rivas,n.d ). Another risk is that even though the AI has been designed to do beneficial things, this technology turns destructive as it tries to accomplish its goal. This usually happens as a result of failing to align personal goals with that of the AI. For instance, asking a self-driving car to carry you to the airport within the shortest time possible, the vehicle will do what it was asked to do and not what the individual wanted; hence, it might fail to obey the various road rules which may have severe impacts on the individuals.
How to Ensure against AI abuse
According to Cheatham, Javanmardian & Samandari (2019), some of the ways in which the abuse of AI can be stopped include; conducting deep and broad investigations in the Artificial Intelligence before establishing it in order to prevent them from getting out of control like for instance the autonomous robotic weapons and the self-driving cars. Another method is through advocating for a systems approach to Artificial intelligence research as well as its development, which accounts for the other emerging forms of technologies and also ensures human participation. This will ensure the creation of various machines and human networks that can think sense, and collaborate and with significant efficacy rather than just the AI and the human alone.
