Productivity

Productivity is one of the levels that most industries within the economy aim to achieve. In this case, productivity refers to being productive, such as attaining the goals and objectives that have been set or meeting and satisfying the needs of the clients. The hotel industry in Singapore aims to ensure that while it is in place, it is productive.

Why Productivity Has a Positive Impact on the Hotel Industry in Singapore

In recent years, it is evident that Singapore's hotel industry has been thriving, and this success has been dependent on various factors. One such factor that has helped the hotel industry to succeed is productivity. The hotel industry has been working with various shareholders and stakeholders to ensure that it is productive. This aspect means various measures have been developed to ensure that the company meets all the goals and objectives that have been set (Ortiga, 2018). Achieving productivity is important for every industry, not only in Singapore but in other countries. However, in Singapore, there are many ways that attaining productivity may impact the hospitality industry.

One of the impacts of productivity in Singapore's hotel industry is that it will attract more investors. Investors are an integral part of any industry as they help provide more resources that will help the company thrive. In the hospitality industry, there are a lot of people who are looking to invest in it. However, these individuals or organizations are skeptical about investing in certain areas due to low productivity levels. In this case, when the hotel industry in Singapore is productive, more investors will be attracted (Ortiga, 2018). These investors will come and channel the resources that they have into the hospitality industry, thereby helping to grow beyond the current status. As the hospitality industry grows, more tourists from foreign countries will be attracted, thus increasing the revenue by a wide margin. Eventually, the huge revenue earned from this industry will lead to growth in Singapore's economy.

The second impact of productivity within the hotel industry in Singapore is that it increases the employees' morale. In every work setting, employees feel good when effectively performing their tasks to help the organization meet its goals and objectives (Yeoh & Lin, 2013). As the employees are working, they are motivated since they understand that their effort has played an important role in ensuring productivity, which makes them want to do more.

How Migrants Increase Productivity

As mentioned before, the hotel industry in Singapore has been thriving for several years, owing to the measures that have been developed by the government and other independent entities. However, with the growing hospitality industry, there have been certain challenges that the sector may face if they are solved. One of the challenges experienced in the hotel industry in Singapore is the shortage of labor, which can lead to reduced productivity (Henderson, 2016). The hospitality sector has grown, and this means that jobs have increased. However, the availability of labor has been low, an issue that has prompted certain approaches to be undertaken. One of the approaches that the hospitality industry has adopted is the use of migrants. These migrants are people who have fled from their countries due to certain issues such as civil wars. In this case, they may have several impacts on the productivity of the hotel industry in Singapore.

One of the ways that migrants increase productivity is the low wages. Most of the immigrants who have been employed to work in various hotels and other facilities within the hospitality industry do not demand huge pay. Some of them cannot be paid a high wage since they do not have the qualifications needed. In this case, hiring migrants from other countries will ensure that the hotel industry's productivity increases. Since these migrants are being paid lower wages, the hotels will not be spending a lot of money on paying their workers (Henderson, 2016). Therefore, the hotels remain with a lot of money to channel to other activities such as the acquisition of various resources that will help further increase the level of productivity.

The second way that these migrants increase productivity is that most of them are hardworking. Most of these migrants have come from countries experiencing a lot of troubles, such as civil wars. Due to these issues, their people could not do anything, and they had to run away so that they could get a livelihood in other countries such as Singapore. In this case, these migrants, while they are in the country, are hardworking since most of them want to get their lives back and make them better. The hard work that most of the migrants display is vital to the hotel industry in the sense that it ensures that most of the vital activities are carried out successfully.

The third way that immigrants result in increased productivity is that some of them are skilled. A Small of migrants who come to Singapore from other countries may be skilled in the sense that they have been trained and can perform various roles within the hotel industry (Sheehan, Grant & Garavan, 2018). The countries where the migrants have come from do not have a stable economy; hence they cannot practice their skills there. In such a scenario, when these individuals migrate to other countries, which is Singapore, they move with their skills. These skills make these individuals easily gain employment in the hotel industry. Some of the skills that the migrants have may help solve certain issues that the hotel industry of Singapore lacks. In the end, this element helps to make sure that those skills improve the productivity of the hospitality industry.

Also, migrants help improve the productivity of the hotel industry in Singapore in that they are willing to undertake any task, unlike the citizens. Most Singapore citizens believe that they deserve better, including getting good jobs that are well-paying. This preference affects the hotel industry in that they may not perform a certain task that may be important to the industry. The presence of migrants from foreign countries offers a solution to this issue (Melissen, Cavagnaro & Damen, 2016). These individuals are willing to carry out any task within the hotel industry, including menial jobs. In this case, these jobs are vital because they contribute to the performance of various hotels resulting in productivity.

Conclusion

Concluding, it is evident that the hotel industry in Singapore has been thriving for the past few years. The rise in this industry has been due to the increase in the number of tourists visiting the country. Also, the number of tourists visiting Singapore has increased as various attraction sites have been created. Within the industry, it is evident that productivity is the main element desired by various hotels. Productivity in this industry has major impacts because it ensures more investors are attracted, thereby helping it grow. In this case, the hotels that have been created have adopted several measures to ensure that they succeed. However, the growth of the hospitality industry has led to an increase in the number of hotels. These hotels require manpower that will help to ensure they move in the right direction. One of the actions that most hotels have undertaken is that they have resorted to seeking the help of migrant workers. The migrant workers from other countries will help increase the hotels' productivity since they have less demand while they offer more in terms of their input.
