Introduction

There are different forms that an individual can be punished. And this is because, in most cases, an individual must get into various evil acts, and therefore different methods must be used to make sure that those on the wrong are dealt with. Additionally, these forms can be either solitary confinement, torture, and panoptic surveillance. Although they act to solve a similar issue, they are quite different and are used in extreme circumstances. If bad people are left to interact with others in society, they can pose a significant danger that should be highly avoided. It is, therefore, imperative to view if these methods are viable and should be used in countries as they can contribute to great dangers.

According to the articles provided, torture is highly regarded as an extreme abuse of human rights and, therefore, should be avoided at all costs. It leads to the great suffering of people as they experience a lot of pain suffering. Most countries have even gone the extra mile and banned the form of punishment. However, it is sometimes appropriate as some people do not learn from these other forms of punishment. Torture itself is rarely helpful as people suffer a lot in the process and sometimes even death. It can lead to post-traumatic stress as the events are quite bad to remember. Many people, after undergoing torture, are left physically impaired. It is therefore not advocated for and is considered the ultimate solution if a person does not change. It is a harrowing ordeal to remember how an individual passes through torture, so it is not good.

Besides, torture is not good, according to human rights activists who claim it is inhuman. They claim that it is a violation of human rights, and most people should, therefore, avoid it at all costs. Torture can break down individual esteem, and worst cases lead to suicide. Most of the people who go through pain do not recover quickly and therefore end up suffering for the rest of their life until they die. Most of the people increasingly use torture as it quickly makes a person compile easily. They can, therefore, find the information that they require quickly. Torture should not be used in any case as it is arguably the worst form of punishment an individual can be subjected to while alive. Therefore torture cannot be justified and should not be used under any given circumstance as it is awful and should be highly discouraged.

Besides, panoptic surveillance is another form of punishment that is very popular. According to the readings, it denies an individual a lot of privileges. A person can't do whatever they like as they are under watch or the time. It also violates the right of privacy of an individual such that what they do is continuously under surveillance. Therefore they cannot do what they feel all the time.

Consequently this leads to a lot of problems as an individual continually tries to live according to how they are expected. It is not a very bad form of punishment as the individual can enjoy most of their rights, and it is not painful. However, it is tough to live according to the set standards of other people.

As a result, most people who live under surveillance face a lot of issues and are mostly caught on the wrong side of things in most cases. They, therefore, live a horrible lifestyle which cannot be enjoyed by anybody. It is natural for most human beings to commit errors as they are very prone to them. Therefore the surveillance can act as a good thing, but it is in sporadic cases. Consequently, it is vital to first exhaust all the other forms before using panoptic monitoring. According to the text, it can help solve a lot of issues while still developing others. It is, therefore, imperative to consider all the other methods before choosing which is the best and in the process, attaining the best solution to the given issues. People go through a lot of problems before they can maintain and get the best solution. As a result, according to the reading, panoptic surveillance is not proper and, therefore, should be highly discouraged.

Arguably the main of solitary confinement is to control and contain prisoners while undermining them. The sole responsibility of a correctional facility is to ensure that wrongdoers do not harm those who live peacefully. It is, therefore, essential to find different ways of ensuring that there is solitary confinement as it provides wrongdoers who do not mingle with those who are not bad. Therefore isolation must be used as it is very vital in society. However, it can lead to a lot of suffering for the prisoners. According to the text, one of the prisoners claimed that it was like living in hell being in confinement. Although the prisoners suffer mentally is the only way to ensure that people in the outside world are safe.

Also, the prisoners are afforded different services, such as basic needs and visitation by family members. Confinement centers, which are commonly referred to as prisons, can create enormous difficulties for different individuals. When a person is confined, they can learn a lesson and thus stop indulging in bad practices. The article tries to show how confinement centers are places where people can learn good manners and therefore live a better life. Once an individual is released from confinement in most cases, they are fully reformed and take part in activities that are quite helpful.

Therefore it is essential to note that confinement centers are vital in reforming individuals. It is tough to change a person from being bad to good. However, confinement centers efficiently do this and ensure an individual is fully transformed and is completely doing as required. Therefore according to the reading, which has enhanced my understanding of punishment, better confinement is quite vital in ensuring there is discipline among individuals.

Conclusion

All in all, it hard to choose if a different form of punishment is good or bad. And this is because criminals need to be punished in any applicable method possible so that they can reduce the dangers they pose in society. It is quite hard to do everything in the right way while complying with law and order. It is, therefore, essential to do good always to meet the specific standards that are set in society. The society requires everybody to be law-abiding and not take part in things that can lead to trouble. The readings gave me an enhanced understanding of punishment by creating a feeling that some forms of punishment are not suitable. Finally, it is essential to use all methods applicable to punish an individual when they perform something wrong.
