Judge Says Evidence Shows Murder Defendant Needs to get Held in Jail

There is a case in the state whereby the evidence provided in the court shows that a murder defendant should remain in jail. He is held without bond as the visual evidence on him is compelling. Tony Antonie is charged with first-degree murder of eleven-year-old Karon Brown on July 18 on the 2700 block of Naylor road (Gelb, 2015). There is a probable cause that tony committed the crime and is held as he has a reputation of not following conditions of release, as observed in two other states where he had criminal charges. According to witnesses, tony had been seen with a gun on several occasions. The evidence is clear that the shooting was not on self-defense, as tony claimed. The two rounds that went through the trunk and killed Brown were from Tony's gun.

Homicide Victim: Javon Abney

Another case is on Javon Abney, who got killed on January 26, 2019 (Metropolitan Police Department. n.d.). The shooting occurred in the 1500 block of fort Davis place (Metropolitan Police Department. n.d.). Javon got killed along with two other victims identified as Sean Shuler and Tyrik Hagood. The case is yet to get prosecuted as there is not enough information on the homicide. As a result, the metropolitan police department has asked for assistance from the public on more details about the murder. They have promised a reward of up to $25000 for each victim for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the crime (Metropolitan Police Department. n.d.).

Potomac River Rapist

The third case is that of the Potomac river rapist, who was later charged for a 1998 homicide and a 1996 first degree sexual abuse offense (Petworth, P. O. n.d.). The metropolitan police department homicide branch made the announcement. The assailant, commonly known as the Potomac river rapist, is said to have raped eight women and involved in one homicide in Washington. The age of his victims ranged from 18 to 41 years.

On August 1, 1998, at around 10.30 pm, 29-year-old Christine was approached by the suspect as she was walking in the 3600 blocks of canal road, Northwest (Petworth, P. O. n.d.). The suspect is said to have assaulted Christine, and she was found dead the next day at the stated location. Also, on July 20, 1996, another female victim aged 58 years old was sexually assaulted as she was walking n the 4900 blocks of MacArthur Blvd, in the Palisades neighborhood of Northwest, Washington, D.C. (Petworth, P. O. n.d.). As the investigation was going on, DNA evidence linked the suspect to these crimes alongside others. The suspect was arrested on November 13, 2019 (Petworth, P. O. n.d.). Gilel Daniel Warrick, who is 60 years old, was arrested in Conway, South Carolina. He was taken from South Carolina to the metropolitan police department, where he got charged with first-degree murder and first-degree sexual abuse. The police thank the other federal partners for assisting in the arrest of Warrick hence closing the case. They also ask those with information about the incident to come forward or send anonymous information to the FBI and the metropolitan police.

Citizens must collaborate with the police to ensure that the rate of crimes in Washington reduces to a significant low. Although Washington is considered to be among the states with a low crime rate, there has been a considerable rise in the number of crimes committed in the state. It has led to a lot of questions on how safe Washington DC is.
