Introduction
Polk County (in Florida, United States of America) has been in existence for a long while as there are political leaders who have come from the place to get to top positions in the government. The first people to realize that the location was perfect for habitation settled there about 12,000 years ago and this signified the last ice age concerning the Paleo-Indians. The peninsula at that time was undergoing events of expansions having in mind that there was also a change in the sea level.
The country was therefore named after James K. Polk (1795-1849) as he was the 11th president of the United States. The naming of the county made it be the 39th in Florida from February 8th, 1861 (Hartmann, 2017, 2). When this took place, the state of Florida had divided Hillsborough to have both the eastern and western sides. The next thing was to make sure the eastern side was named Polk to honor James Knox Pork who was a president that many people adored. This means that there was a need to make sure that one of the counties was named after him.
The population of Pork County stands at 602,095 according to the census that was conducted in the year 2010 (Ferguson, 2018, 5). The population has been growing since then having in mind that other economic activities are taking place hence improving the lives of many. Consequently, the life expectancy has also gone up. The ethnic makeup of the county constitutes the Whites at 60.4%, Hispanics at 21.1%, and Blacks at 14.6% (Hartmann, 2017, 3). Also, 21.1% of the people who live in Polk County speak non-English languages while about 94% happen to be citizens of the United States.
According to the Census Bureau, Pork City covers about 2,010 square miles (5,506 km2). Out of this, approximately 1,874 square miles is taken up by the land while the remaining portion is taken up by water at about 7% of the county. The county is located at a place that is almost at the center of Florida Seventeen municipalities. The city was previously a tiny village, but it has grown to be a metropolitan city that hosts some economic activities in the United States. Some of the counties that are neighboring Pork County are Lake County, Osceola County, Orange County, Okeechobee County, Pasco County, Manatee County, Hillsborough County, and Hardee County.
The education in Pork County is mostly served by the Public Schools that are in the area. The county has some colleges and universities that make sure that every person has an opportunity to be educated. Some of the educational institutions in the county are Polk State College, Southern University, Florida Polytechnic University, Warner University and Webber International University (Hartmann, 2017, 4). The federal funding of schools had led to some people graduating with first degrees as this acts as an incentive to all the citizens.
The natural resources in Pork County are rarely found anywhere else as they are based on beauty. It has various vivid wildlife points such as the Circle B Bar Reserve that is in the Lakeland. In that case, the leadership in the county has been able to come up with initiatives that make sure that the natural resources are well protected (Ferguson, 2018, 1). Looking at religion in the county, the census that was conducted in the year 2010 showed that Evangelical Protestants were topping the list by 24.7%, the Catholic followed by 7.5%, Mainline Protestant at 5.2%, Black Protestant at 1.8% while the Orthodox were the least at 0.1%.
The future of Polk County concerning teaching is vivid as most of the characteristics that it bears are positive. This means that teaching in the area has more advantages compared to the disadvantages. Polk County has many universities and colleges, and that means getting a teaching job in the area is an easy task. Teaching in the county is also an excellent experience as most of the people are oriented towards achieving success and being in line with all that it takes to accomplish education related dreams.
Future teaching in Polk County is also likely to be an excellent experience as the county is not highly populated and that means the allocation of resources in the education sector is carried out effectively. The ethnic groups in the county are also well distributed with the whites taking up a better part of the population. Therefore, interacting with them will be more comfortable as they are all well conversant with the English language which most of the United States citizens speak. Also, teaching in the county will not be hectic as the religious affiliations that it depicts are not complicated.
The natural resources in the county are myriad, and that means teaching will be interesting because the students will have a place where they experience the practical aspects of what they learn in class. Many departments have been set aside to make sure that the wildlife reserves are protected. This means that as a teacher, one can spend some free time enjoying the wildlife as part of leisure. Therefore, Polk County is the best place when it comes to teaching and as a career.
