Introduction
The Great Equal society is one of the well-written books by Professor Kim Young and his student Kim Jung-Kyu. The book elaborates in detailed steps on how china can become a role model to the rest of the world, which sets an excellent example that most of the superpower countries have failed to provide, such as the United States based on their ancient philosophy (Confucianism). Confucianism acts as the guiding creed for almost a quarter of humankind. No one attempts to explain it in clear terms until the release of the Great Equal society ,which distills the key concepts and thoughts of the notable Confucian classics and displays how they can be adopted and useful to the current culture in the world (Kim & Kim, 2014). In addition, the authors set out a proper strategy on how humanity can achieve this phenomenon in various perspectives; government, economy, education, diplomacy, and even the environment. This paper will outline and review some of the book's key points and ways in which they are useful in today's society.
Confucian concentrates more on the inner morality and elaborates its more profound meaning in the crony capitalism, dysfunctional government, and the destruction of ethics in the main street and Wall Street. For instance, management-labor relations are among the widely misused and hostile concepts in China, and that is why the author emphasizes china adopting the examples of successful firms in Japan, which value employees as the most crucial stakeholders besides shareholders and customers (Kim & Kim, 2014). Moreover, the CEOs make sure that they do not pay themselves too much but have a slight difference in their salaries with the employees, but this is different in the United States and China. However, before the interruption of management and labor, Confucius was a pro-market, but human and social consideration destroyed it, and unless these constraints are done away with, the people will continue to suffer indirectly.
The authors go ahead and argue that eradication of any rampant corruption in society is not a complicated process, and this is through practicing good deeds by the top leaders. To support the statement, Kim argues that it is the right time for China to imitate the model of civil service from existing companies, which are already leading from other countries such as those in Singapore (Kim & Kim, 2014). Moreover, the only way to accomplish a civil society model is through paying high salaries and also promoting talents from private and public sectors, and the same should be practiced within the government setup. Furthermore, the book urges the society to embrace the legitimacy of the party dictatorship and that having selfless leaders is the only way to overcome the issues of corruption in the country and always concentrate on the philosophical motives that are generally not known in the capitalist society.
Most of the labor force unions of workers have not been able to accomplish their objectives of making sure the employees are well-identified and appreciated in China and the United States. The selfishness nature and luxury desires have contributed a lot towards not achieving the philosophical concept of Confucius, whereby the capitalist society benefits the involved stakeholders only the owners. Therefore, the only way to embrace change in china is to be disciplined and start exercising the required concept to act as role model in society.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Great society is one of the inspiring books to read since it gives us a lot of hope for the future of humanity. However, it is hard to tell if some of the mentioned qualities are being practiced in the world in china today because quite the opposite is happening daily. Therefore, it is every individual citizen to exercise the philosophical strategies as displayed in the book to be able to transform the society of Confucius into a more pleasant and best place to live in regards to political, social, and environmental aspects.
