Introduction

For any psychotherapy to be successful, the therapeutic relationship is required. The client and the therapist should collaborate and come up with solutions to the client`s problems. The first case of Erickson that I will examine is the case of the 30-year-old couples who had been trying for almost three years to get a baby. The humorous story which Erickson discovered from these two couples was their communication. Most of their talks revolved around procreating or having married with the sole aim of procreating. Erickson proposed a shock therapy to the pair as a way of addressing the problem facing them. He informed them that it would be a psychological shock and not electric shock, and he gave them time to think about it. When he came back, the couple told Erickson that they are willing to do anything and even to be shocked. He gave them instructions and understood them to drive home together without communicating with each other, and they mutually agreed to take up the conditions. This paper seeks to examine how various major therapies learned in class can be used in addressing multiple case problems presented by Milton H. Erickson in his uncommon therapies.

The understanding of social and personal development is essential as it promotes a fruitful interaction. Erickson told them to hold the bottom of their chairs and said that they had engaged in marital union for three years with full psychological concomitants mainly for recreation purposes. The two couples kept silent on their way back home, and when they reached home, they found that they couldn't wait to get in their bedroom. They arrived in front of their door and engaged in a marital union while on the floor just for fun, and after three months later, the wife got pregnant, the services must be inexpensive to the patients as they do not want something that will make them economically drained hence it is advisable to treat the disease at home. The patient is tracked at home when the guard charges do not apply. One only needs to pay for the health expert's services and bear the cost of any prescribed drugs. Many factors, including the people who are involved, the available resources, and the health regulations that exist, should be considered and evaluated to succeed in this task. To accomplish this task, several variables, including those involved, available resources and existing health regulations, should be considered and evaluated. It is desirable want to conduct a feasibility study to determine whether it is worth it and whether it is successful at home.

To address the above case by Erickson, I would propose him to use Family therapy as an ideal cure for addressing the issue of childless among the two 30-year-old couples who had been trying hard to get a child for three years with no fruits. Family therapy is well known to be important in providing families with expertise and guidance on various family issues, such as the case presented Erickson on the two 30-year-old couples who were unable to get a child (Colapinto, 2015). For instance, this therapy is significant in addressing various family problems such as communication or dysfunction issues. Family therapies can take different forms, such as family sculpting. This technique reveals various dynamics through non-verbal expression (Colapinto, 2015). Counselors usually aid individuals through the family talks; however, afterward, much of the work is done without any utterances. If there is a generation of socially inappropriate solutions, the therapist may be required to take a more direct approach. Ratings of moods and beliefs can illustrate how a realistic interpretation of experience makes someone cheerful.

The second case of Erickson that I will examine in this paper is the case of a man in his 50's who had suffered a stroke and was brought to Erickson by his wife from California to Phoenix. The man was unable to talk and was completely paralyzed, Erickson insulted the man. In this case, I propose that the therapist could use Cognitive Behavior therapy learned in class an ideal therapy for curing the old patient suffering from a stroke which was presented to him. According to Hayes & Hofmann (2018), cognitive behavioral therapy primarily focuses on modifying certain behaviors and emotions by uprooting some of the negative thoughts and beliefs. In this case, CBT can be used to address stroke that was suffered by the older man in his fifties who was presented to Erickson. The cognitive-behavioral theory rests on the idea that certain beliefs, thoughts, and perceptions may influence specific individual's behaviors. In most cases, some distressing feelings may distort an individual's perceptions of reality.

The cognitive-behavioral theory aims at identifying some of the harmful thoughts, assessing whether it depicts the reality or whether it employs the necessary strategies to challenge and overcome them (Hayes & Hofmann 2018). By using the cognitive-behavioral theory, Erickson would be able to help the man presented to him by her wife from California to Phoenix in enhancing the Old's man quality of life. Through the use of this therapy, the older man would recover from stroke condition, thus gaining its ability to talk and walk.

The third case of Erickson that I will discuss in this paper is the case of a woman who was presented to Erickson suffering from Stomach ulcers. Erickson established that women experienced ulcers whenever her relatives came to visit her in hospitals because she did not like them. The women used to vomit every time her in-laws came to visit her, and after they have left. To address the issues of vomiting, Erickson taught the women to vomit in the presence of her relatives, instead of when they have left. To address the above case of women suffering ulcers because she doesn't like in-laws, I would propose Erickson to have used Reality therapy. This is because reality psychoanalysis is a practice of CBT that emphases on enhancing current relationships and situations while evading discussion of the events of the past.

Reality therapy is centered on the notion that our greatest significant need to feel treasured and a sense of belonging (Wubbolding, 2017). It also stresses that basic needs can only be addressed by establishing secure connections with other individuals. Reality therapy teaches how to control our feelings, how we behave as well as how we think. The main goal of reality therapy is to help individuals take control of enhancing their own lives by learning how to make good choices. Besides, it is imperative to note that reality therapy is based on the theory of choice, the principle in which individuals decide to behave in specific ways, and these choices can help in enhancing the quality of one's life (Wubbolding, 2017). By using reality therapy, Erickson could have helped the woman suffering from ulcers when she sees her relatives. This approach is sensible because it will help the women to address the issue of ulcers facing her by controlling her behavior, making the right choices.

The Fourth case of Erickson that I will examine using therapies covered in class is the case of the nine-year-old girl who was failing in school and withdrawing from her friends. The little girl believed that she could not do anything. Still, Erickson helped her in several ways, such as assisting her on how to play well in various games such as cycling, roller skating, and jumping a rope, and as a result, the girl improved her grades in school and her social life. By working together with the girl, the little girl was able to build confidence in her.

In this case, I would propose that Erickson could have utilized humanistic psychology as an ideal therapy because it helps each person to exploit his potential in realizing the importance of growth and self-actualization. This therapy suggests that each individual possesses a personal agency that motivates them to pursue certain things that help to exploit their potential as human beings (Dryden, 2017). This desire for fulfillment and individual growth is an essential motivator of all behavior. Individuals usually continually look for several ways of growing, becoming better, learning new things to attain personal psychological growth and self -actualization. An individual perspective of events influences emotions and behaviors. Different people have different perceptions because information and experiences are evaluated using various beliefs. Filtering situations lead to automatic negative thoughts that are associated with emotional change, behavioral, and physical change.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the paper identifies some of the ideal major therapies that could have been used by Erickson to address the issues presented to him by various clients. These therapies included; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality therapy, family therapy, and humanistic psychology.
