Introduction
Based on the case of the individual and the information at the assessment report, Cassandra, is suffering from mental disorders, as a result of the past experiences, she has had in life. The metal disorders have been worsened by her use of drugs and abuse of substances. The best treatment that can suit her is the Psychotherapy program. Psychotherapy is defined as a psychological therapy also known as talk cure, where the counselor is aimed at offering the victim, a meaningful interaction(Hazelden Foundation,2016). The treatment aims to make clients change their behavior and view of several aspects of life. This program will affect Cassandra, by impacting both her mental-wellbeing, but also improve her behavior. Cassandra has an unstable behavior, as a result of mental disturbances. The fact that she has been arrested for possession of Heroin in the past, drinking alcohol, and engaging in risky behaviors such as stealing, is evidence of stress and anxiety. The psychotherapy program, will help Cassandra rebuild her social skills, manage her emotions, and seek to improve her life in positive ways, such as considering, education again. There are diverse treatment programs under Psychotherapy, due to the difference in the schools of psychological thoughts. The best program would be the cognitive behavioral therapy, because it applies the technique of analyzing the behavior, and offer therapies aimed at changing thoughts, to impact behaviors by improving emotions. The program covers the maladaptive patterns, in the response and cognition. The Abundant Community Recovery Services is a facility that can offer a psychotherapy treatment to Cassandra. It is a suitable facility, as it combines the treatment sessions, with basic medication on the management of addiction to drugs, changes of housing, and healthy living programs.
Correctional Programs for the Individual
Cassandra has been found guilty of an offense that is punishable by the law. She has a history involving the use of drugs. The abuse of substance must have resulted in her delinquency, irresponsible sexual behavior, and the loss of her job. According to the American Correctional association’s declaration agreement of the year 1970, correctional institutions should provide programs aimed at rehabilitating the person, and reforming a person into a future responsible individual. The first program that Cassandra can be engaged in is the vocational training program. The training normally emphasizes the need to develop skills and knowledge, required, for a person, in a job to function. The most common ones are the training on the skills in the entry of data, skills of sewing, carpentry, welding metals, and other basic industrial skills. These skills are useful in transforming Cassandra immediately after she is done serving her time. Her abuse of drugs could be as a result of stress-related to her inability to be satisfied in her job. She possibly engages in stealing, as there are no alternatives for her to earn money, essential for her upkeep and the care of her family. She is a drop out in the 10th grade and possibly lacks the skills that vocational training can offer her. The second program would be on parenting. The correctional program coordinators can refer her to a center such as the Detroit Parent Network in Detroit (Detroit ParentNetwork,2017). Cassandra needs a program on becoming a better parent even outside wedlock. The information on the case shows that she has a child, but held in the custody of her mother. She needs to undergo mandatory classes on how to improve her household and create a considerable time with her child. A probation officer is to be assigned to her, for a few months to ensure that she is adhering to the guidelines and the training that she would have received from the correctional programs.
Roles of Helping Process in the Correctional Program for Cassandra
The correctional program for the patient would be based on psychological concepts and constant counseling (Harford, 2019). For the institution to empower, and implement meaningful changes for her, there must be helping processes to be applied. The active listening as a helping process is essential in the understanding of the problems being experienced by the client, through empathetically listening. Active listening enables the concerned professionals to understand the feelings of the client and assess her powers, weaknesses, and strengths. The identification of problems as a second helping process in the correctional program, is essential in guiding the client to define the goals based on wants, how the goals can be achieved, and examine strategies that can be utilized in the process of attaining the goal. The final step would be the follow-up process. The process is important because the professionals would, put mechanisms in place, to ensure that the goals are achieved (Harford,2019). By providing Cassandra with a chance to learn vocational skills, her goal of financial freedom is almost guaranteed. It would help in assessing the programs and their efficiency.
Skills Needed to Facilitate the Helping Process
Several skills are needed to facilitate the helping process.
Assessment Skills
The ability of the concerned professional, to assess the client is critical. The skill enables the professionals involved to understand the damages that a particularly traumatic event, in the life of the client has caused. Assessment skills would be needed to understand whether the goals that Cassandra, aims are being realized or not. There would be a need for assessment of the overall program and an investigation on compliance upon her release.
Planning Skills
Planning skills are essential in determining the programs, their suitability, and how they are to be offered. An example of the importance of this skill is in the determination of the logical arrangements of the correctional programs and the treatment of Cassandra before her release from the correctional facility. The skill would determine the success of the entire correctional program.
Evaluation Skills
Evaluation is the process of determining, whether a process, was successful, or not. The skill of evaluation is critical in testing the impacts of a program on the clients. Evaluating the slow change of behavior, and emotional management is important in the outcome of Cassandra. The final evaluation would be conducted by the probation officer, who would be tasked with ensuring that she abides by the lessons she learned in the correctional facility.
