Introduction
In the book The Short Bus, it is evident that the society in which the book is set up in attributes success, normalcy and one's ability to human behavior. It is believed that when one behaves in a way which conforms to the behavior of the dominant group in the society and can work, he or she will be successful. Kent is seen not to be very successful since he has ADHD condition which made him act differently as compared to other people. In the society a person using a language which is not accepted he or she will be termed as abnormal.
Person's Background
Kent who is the main character has Attention, Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) which makes him behave in a way which is not common in the society. Kent uses vulgar language without being sorry for it, for instance as he was conversing with his visitor he says, "Dude, women shooting Ping-Pong balls out of their vaginas should be on ESPN'. It is difficult for Kent to maintain a straight forward conversation without digressing. He talks of one point, and the next minute he is talking about another thing, this situation is linked to ADHD condition.
Story Aspects
In our daily life, we encounter different people, and we judge them differently. Kent in his academic life, he encounters teachers with different perception about his condition. Mrs. M understood Kent, and he could allow him to sharpen his pencil anytime he breaks it. Kent terms Mrs. M as a person with good heart solidly locked inside her. Mrs. C didn't understand him, and once she comes into class she would demoralize them, Kent terms her as an emotional-terrorist teacher. It is prudent for us to note that people suffering from ADHD conditions are not mad, but their behavior makes them be categorized as not normal, but that is not true.
Insights
It is prudent to take our time to understand one's condition before judging them. ADHD condition as portrayed by Kent. This condition can give one extra energy to deliver much work, at one point Kent made a presentation for many hours non-stop, and this is attributed to ADHD condition. Despite Kent having this condition he is determined to succeed in what he does, he is a self-driven person. Amanda has the same condition as Kent. They understood each and ended up getting married. Kent's visitor understood his condition, that is why he did not get offended when Kent used vulgar language. When they were in the club, Kent tricked him that his phone was being tracked by security personnel; this was just a lie to make humor, and since his friend understood him, he did not get upset. This indicates to us that we should be understanding.
Conclusion
In conclusion, it has been noted that the cases of people being affected by ADHD condition are in the rise. ADHD condition was first noted in the 1950s; it is approximated that 15 million people suffer from this condition. From the book The Short Bus, we have known that people suffering from this condition are super active at times; they have enough energy to deliver a lot of work without getting tired.
