What/Who is the NIJ and What Functions Do They Serve?
The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) is an agency is a research, development and evaluation agency formed by the U.S NIJ was with the department of justice. NIJ focuses on employing advanced technology, policy analysis and research in the quest to solve complex criminal cases. It uses strategies such as forensics, judicial processes as well as law enforcement and corrections (Rodriguez, 2016).
What Branch Are They a Part of in the Government?
The National Institute of Justice is under the governmental department of justice because its primary role is to help in crime analysis to serve justice (Rodriguez, 2016).
What Type of Research Do They Engage In?
NIJ researches crimes related to issues such as law enforcement and corrections, forensics, and judicial processes, as well as criminology, criminal justice. NIJ is also applicable in social science research especially issues related to corrections, violence against women, crime prevention strategies, Child Abuse and program evaluation(Rodriguez, 2016).
What Are the Research Priorities of the NIJ?
NIJ prioritizes researches on significant and complex criminal cases, which may be difficult for the other justice agencies to solve. NIJ also prioritize on strategies that would eventually result in the reduction of crime (Rodriguez, 2016).

NIJ is vital in policy analysis because it employs complex research analytical strategies to policy analysis (Dunn, 2015). It is to ensure they apply the best policies to solve a crime and make viable and just decisions (Rodriguez, 2016).
