Edward J. Blum

A history professor at San Diego state university. He is the Co-author of the book, and a scholar of both race and religion. He has won some awards and hes currently working on a project that views the issues of radical evil in the era of civil war

Jon Gjerde

Was written mainly to encourage critical thinking on the American history, it introduces the reader to primary sources and secondary sources on very crucial topics in the United States history.

The last selection reveals the onset of a sexual revolution in the turbulent twenties. In document 7 young women freely discuss something their mothers would never have condoned petting and premarital sex.

Politics

The book was written in a time when the United States was struggling with civil wars. The author talks about, the reason why nations which have one civil war, end up having many civil wars. Its because the original conflict is often unresolved. So thats why the questions about reconstruction in the U.S during this time had grown, for instance: how would the U.S avoid another war?

Economic and social change

The author talks about how many companies in the 1920s had grown larger creating jobs and increasing wages for the jobless. The 1920s was a time of social change, as new ideas came to be, both freedom and independence also came to be among most of the Americans. For instance cigarette production grew as most of the young women in America began smoking cigarette.
