Introduction

In the article `Is Google Making Us Stupid?', the author raises pertinent issues on the possibility of Google and the internet at large, making us, the users ignorant, lazy and demotivated, instead of achieving the original goals of the invention of the internet. First, the author argues that the use of Google has affected our mindsets, whereby the people who are used to using it have a changed way of thinking. They also lose the concentration span that they enjoyed previously (Carr, 2008). Although the use of Google has been important in research, especially for writers like the author themselves, they feel that the existence of Google greatly undermines the use of the library resources, which were the authentic sources of information.

The use if Google is also affecting how society views reading and how they address the reading culture. Before the internet, people would spend long periods looking for information in books and also reading for leisure. However, due to the use of the internet, there has been the rise of the power browse form of thinking, whereby the people who need to look for information skim through the readily-available web pages containing the answers, hence making them avoid the traditional form of reading which was more wholesome, enjoyable and provided the readers with the chance of learning about more than the facts that they had been initiated after (Carr, 2008). According to the author, the use of Google has brought about laziness and killed curiosity for learning in the people concerned. Through specific searches that can be conducted at the click of a button, a researcher may end up getting only the information they need, hence eliminating the possibility of them coming across other pieces of useful information to the study or generally important in the achievement of knowledge.

Secondary Research Strategies Feedback and Help

In the article `Google Effect: Is Technology Making Us Stupid?' the author attributes the almost careless nature of people in society today to what they term as the Google effect. Through the ease of storing information and retrieving it whenever one needs it, and the possibility of setting up reminders for the information, it is possible to forget the information and have it retrieved whenever one needs it, or the possibility of being reminded of the information as the need arises (Roberts, 2015). Despite the convenience that comes with these features, the possibility of people becoming emotionless and lose their human touch as they delegate these duties to the technology may result in the loss of compassion and love in society.

Comparing the two articles, it is possible to conclude that indeed, technology has started causing negative effects to the society despite the positive ones that it presents to the people and the prospects of getting even better. Technology is replacing human emotions, making humans behave like the machines that they use, interacting with each other only on a need basis. Additionally, the use of technology has taken over human activities that made life exciting and improved the quality of life. For example, curiosity and the need to learn more has been the reason behind the inventions that are seen in the contemporary world. Yet, the use of the internet has inhibited the curiosity and creativity of the people in society, making it impossible for them to achieve any significant levels of invention and development due to the lack of interest to move forwards in society.

Evaluate a Research Source

The objective of the two articles is to bring the readers to the attention that despite the benefits that we reap from using the internet, it is still important that the society recognizes the need for people to maintain their human touch and instincts so that they may be able to enjoy their existence in society and the quality of life that they will achieve in the process. Therefore, the target audience for the article is the society in contemporary times which has laid so much emphasis on the use of the internet to solve their daily challenges, in the process making them lose the human touch and need for existence, which is to experience life and all the activities associated with it and also ensure that through our existence, we promote the development of society through undertaking research and developing the society to achieve the maximum levels of prosperity in whichever field one decides to view the development from.

Conclusion

The writing in the two articles is accurate since they cover the basic reality of society today, whereby the people concerned have lost all their control and given it to the internet, making them become slaves to the internet. Yet, it should be them who use the internet to their advantage. The evidence that the authors in the two articles have used provides even further reliability to the information. Through the presentation of facts that can be seen by everyone and have been experienced by everyone, the articles seek to make every reader identify with the articles and work towards changing the situation.
