Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD) is an illness known to affect the brain of an individual. It is marked by a period of the patient inactive or being hyperactive as a result it ends up interfering with their development (Emilsson, 2017). The condition is common to children and can go to adulthood. They are mainly three symptoms related to ADD, and they include impulsive, lack of attention and hyperactive. All of the three symptoms show a person suffering from such a condition. An individual may display one or two of the identified symptoms. ADHD is a condition that can affect anybody regardless of race, social status, and sex. Its primary cause is nurture which is still ongoing research. It is a biological factor where the child inherits from the parent (Tarver, Daley, & Sayal, 2014).
ADHD is a common condition, and several scientists have researched in the effort of trying explaining it cause and origin. Once the child is affected, they are not able to control their actions. Also, they have a difficult time trying to pay attention to one task. Research conducted shows that 3-10% of the children in the USA have ADHD ("What is ADHD? |LDOnLine," 2018). The total number is approximately two million US children. Due to this all the cases of children who are reported or identified to have any of the above symptoms are referred to the mental professional or school psychologist to handle such issues.
Different factors cause ADHD. Its exact cause is not clear yet. They are few factors identified as the primary cause of ADHD, and they include genetics, a problem during child development and environment. Genetics is one of the reasons for ADHD (Faraone & Larsson, 2018). Genetic indicates the condition may occur due to inherited from parent to children. Another is the environment. It is exposure of a child to a particular state that increases their chances of getting infected. Another is child development. It is the nervous system which is central to child development. Nervous system plays a huge role towards an individual, and any problem increases the chances of its infection ("Adult attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) - Symptoms and causes," 2017).
ADHD symptoms changes with age and as an individual starts age they change. The following symptoms identify ADHD. One of the signs is paying attention. Patients who have ADHD have a difficult time paying attention to one activity. They are easily distracted by an external thought. It makes an individual make silly mistakes either in school or most activities. As a result, the person output tends to be messy due to careless in doing such. Also, an individual tends to be easily distracted by things that are irrelevant, and this makes them too frequently disturb ongoing events. Therefore, they are distracted by irrelevant stimuli which make them fail to keep paying attention to what is relevant. Also, one may have a hard time finishing schoolwork or sticking to the task that requires concentration for more than one hour or less. It is a failure that makes them ends up having low output in their work. Also, they tend to have a shift during conversation or fail to follow the order in a social situation. Their mind gets easily carried away from an essential task to less or irrelevant issues. It is an indication that their brain cannot stick to one work for a long time without getting carried away. The mind of such an individual is affected.
Another symptom is impulsive. It is a symptom that affects the brain of the patient. In children, they don't wait for their chance or turn as they grow impatient. In children, they don't wait for their opportunity or turn as they become anxious. They tend to give answers without first thinking about the questions asked or comprehend ("NIMH >> Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," 2016). It occurs by interrupting of another person conversation. They do this to get attention. The behavior of an individual shows that their brain is affected. They lack common virtues which define a person.
Another symptom is hyperactivity which is more common for young children who are below the age of seven years. It is associated with a child being restless and frequently getting up and running around. Children with this symptom tend to either run or climb even when it is not necessary. Also, they are not able to engage in their leisure activities while silent. They tend to talk too much. One tends to assume that they have the energy, and that is the sole reason as to why they are so active. Also, they don't get tired in their activities even if they are seen to be overdoing. It is a behavior that is caused by ADHD due to mental disorder. The mind of the child is affected, and that is why they don't get tired, and they keep running or playing excessively.
ADHD if not treated affected the brain of an individual. The early scientists connected ADHD symptoms to the notion of brain damage (Sinfield, 2018). Cases of the ADHD which they identified in children were found to cause brain damage. One of them is Sir Frederic who in his lecture was able to relate behavior disorder as a result of the brain damage.
Further studies ascertained that a change in behavior is related to brain damage. The research was able to showcases of children who had the history of a head injury suffered from behavior disorder, which was similar to those with birth trauma or had a birth injury. Those injuries caused toxicity which affected their brain. The idea of the brain damage was conducted research further, and even soldier of war who suffered head injuries behavior was studied. The study showed that brain damage led to the change in the behavior of an individual. It had a link to the hyperactivity of the child which is one of the symptoms defined by the American Psychiatric Association.
Conclusion
Mental professionals assess the condition of the child to determine the best approach to handle such a situation. Once there is the identification of the state, it requires a proper diagnosis to reduce the symptoms of the ADHD to weaken its effects on the mind of the patient. The first step of treating a child who is suffering from ADHD is to receive moral support from all sectors that are teachers, parent, and counselors. The condition deserves treatment since it continues into adulthood. Some of the children do not receive appropriate intervention, and the majority of those are boys or minority race. This condition deserves proper intervention to avoid problems in future in education, social life, emotional among others. Children who are treated by this condition either receive medication or special education. The currently available treatment reduces the symptom identified above by improving an individual functionality ("NIMH >> Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder," 2016). Medication of ADHD includes stimulants, non-stimulants, and antidepressants
