Youth Suicide Prevention Essay

Suicide is an intentional action by an individual. It is predicament that encompasses an act of killing or taking one's own life or causing one's death through several means for specific reasons. Suicide is a common problem not only among the young generation but also among old people. Additionally, it is one of the leading causes of deaths in the contemporary age. Individuals who commit themselves to this predicament may not have any single reason for their action. However, certain factor such as mental health disorder, previous attempts, substance abuse, poverty, job dissatisfaction and infections such as HIV/AIDs have a significant contribution to suicide cases.

Suicide is one of the issues affecting the quality of life in our society today, and it cannot be solved by an individual. This is a collective responsibility where each in the community must participate actively. To ensure this, community leaders and elder through initiatives like door to door visits have a role in educating people about the importance of participating in community affairs. People of the community can get involved in solving community matters affecting them such as suicide through community fundraising to solve these problems and participation in collective decision making.

Furthermore, attending public events, programs and rallies meant to campaign against community problems, educate people and expose them to better ways of dealing with an issue. To motivate both young and old community members who join hand in solving community problems, the community leadership needs to promote their efforts by awarding them and giving them priorities in leadership positions.

However, most community members both young and old people find it difficult to get involved in solving issues that affect their lives because of reasons that differ from one person to the other. For the young generation, they spend much time on social media and education. The current academic program tends to be busy with both full-time and part-time programs. Therefore, youths get limited time to concentrate on community matters. Drug abuse on the other hand cuts across all people. Addiction is the order of the day hence people spend much time on drugs. If a person attends a community program while drunk, he/she may not be able to make the sound decision or participate actively in matters that matter. Moreover, employed community members are busy with their career jobs, and other attends part-time classes to advance their status.

Conclusion

In conclusion, several issues are facing our communities today. These issues affect the well-being of the people in one way or the other. For instance, youth suicide among other problems is one the community issues that call for immediate attention to help the increasing mortality rates. To achieve this, all members of the community have a role to play right from the minors to the old. Taking part in community initiatives, programs and activities by all people is the right part to take to be able to solve such community issues.
