Introduction
In the U.S., every state selects a total of two senators that is the senior Senator and the junior Senator for the six years terms. These senators are representatives of the entire senate. Each state also has a Representative member for the congressional District (GovTrack, 2020). The District elects these representative members to the U.S. House of Representatives for a term of two years. They are also known as congressmen. The congressman is entrusted with five vital duties. They include lawmaking, oversight performance, and individual representation, educating the public and helping constituents. Georgia is one of the U.S. states with congressional representatives of the entire state (GovTrack, 2020). The senior Senator of Georgia is David Perdue; the junior Senator is Kelly Loeffler and Henry Johnson Jr. Being Georgia's Congressman.
David Perdue
David Perdue is Georgia's senior Senator. Born on 10th December 1949 in Macon, Georgia, he was raised by his parents, who were both school teachers. In his early life, he worked at his family farm, an activity that was able to teach him the importance of working hard at a tender age (Ballotpedia, 2020). He pursued his high school education at North side high school, which secured him a chance to join the Georgia Institute of Technology. He acquired an industrial engineering degree in 1972 and later on a master's degree in operations research in 1975 from the same institute. He married Bonnie immediately after graduating, and at the time of his marriage, he was working with warehouse and construction jobs. Before his political career, he was able to work with various companies, including Sara Lee Corporation, where he acted as the vice president (Ballotpedia, 2020). He has also held the Chief Executive Officer position in 1998 at Reebok and Dollar General Stores. He also worked at Pillowtex in 2002 as the C.E.O. He made tremendous achievements in his position including helping families that were working to achieve by creating many quality jobs. He currently resides at the Glynn County with his family being his primary inspiration of making his way into the U.S. senate.
In 2014, he ran for the U.S. Senate seat under the Republican Party and defeated Democrat's, Mitchell Nunn. He garnered 56% of the votes against his opponents 42%, and his estimated salary is $174,000. Before his election, Perdue had never held any political position. He is President Trump's supporter. He serves on the Banking, Armed services, foreign relations, and budget committees for the 116th Congress. Perdue also worked in several committees in the 115th Congress. They include the agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry committees. His interests are in foreign policy issues as well as environmental concerns.
Kelly Loeffler
Kelly Loeffler is Georgia's junior Senator under the Republican Party. She was born on 27th November 1970 at Bloomington, Illinois. Just like Perdue, she was raised at her family's soybean and corn firm. She attended Olympia high school in 1988 and later on proceeded to she graduated with a BSc in marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaigns in 1992. At that time, she was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority and worked with Toyota holding the District Accountant manager position (GovTrack, 2020). She acquired an M.B.A. in marketing and international finance from DePaul University in 1999. After getting her Masters, she was able to work with companies such as Citibank, crossroads group, and William Blaire and company. In 2002, Loeffler was able to join a financial and commodity provider company known as the intercontinental exchange and two years later got married to Jeffrey Sprecher, the Company's Chief Executive officer. She was then on offered a promotion at the company as the investor relations and corporate communications vice president. Her entrepreneurial skills enabled her to raise, and in 2018 she became the C.E.O. at Bakkt, an intercontinental exchange subsidiary. In 2019, Loeffler applied with the hope of succeeding the incumbent Johnny Isakson after his resignation from the U.S. Senate. She was sworn into office on 6th January 2020 and is already serving in several committees (GovTrack, 2020). These include the joint economic committee, Veterans' affairs committee, the Nutrition, forestry, and agriculture committee and the health, labor, pensions, and education committees. She has an interest in the abortion issues, where she is a staunch opponent of the act. She is also interested in the matters concerning civil rights, where she is in support of the policy on religious liberty.
Henry "Hank" Johnson Jr.
Hank Johnson represents Georgia in the 4th congressional District under the Democratic Party. He was born in Washington DC on 2nd October 1954. In 1976, Henry graduated the Clark College. In 1979, he again graduated from Thurgood Marshal School of law from the Southern University of Texas in Houston. He was able to practice law for more than 20 years in Decatur, Georgia. Henry managed to be the chair of the committee of DeKalb county budget before being elected as Georgia's 4th Congressional District in 2007, with 78.8% votes (GovTrack, 2020). His salary is estimated to be $174,000. Since his election, he has been able to serve on several committees. He served in the armed service committee and the judiciary committee between 2011 and 2016 under several different subcommittees in his designated committees to serve. He has interests in the immigration policy and is in support of immigrants and refugees who get into America with the hope of bettering themselves. He also has some interest in the healthcare policy issue, which saw him assist in the passage of former President Obama's legislation on healthcare reforms in the 111th Congress.
At the start of the 115th Congress, Henry was appointed to serve on the judiciary committee and the transport and infrastructure committee. The transport and infrastructure committee replaced the armed service committee that he had served in for long (GovTrack, 2020). He has been recently assigned to the same committees in the 116th Congress between 2019 and 2020 in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The representative of interest under this study is the senior Georgia Senator, David Perdue. The reason is that he has been a hard worker from his early days. Despite him not ever holding a political position, he has been able to efficiently represent the state of Georgia in the senate (Ballotpedia, 2020). He efficiently delivered in his first term and served in relevant and compelling committees. Through his roles in these powerful committees, he has been able to be at the intersection of some crises on the national debate and global security. He serves as the only Republican to serve in both the armed services at the senate as well as committees and foreign relations. This uniquely positions him to address global security issues (Ballotpedia, 2020). He is also an effective senator because of his commitment to animals in ensuring that the animals that the community keeps are in good shape. This has enabled him to get a valuable and useful endorsement of the welfare of animals. It is this unique nature of his delegated duties that present him as a representative of interest and an effective leader.
