Introduction
Various organizations mandated to fight Terrorism in the US are faced with numerous challenges that inhibit their functionality and ability from curbing the menace. Countering the effect of terrorist activities will be ideal for safeguarding and protecting the Americans. The paper analyses the challenges faced by the various agencies tasked to combat terrorism and the recommendation made to solve the problems faced in fight against terrorism.
Challenges
Among the challenges faced is the continuously changing tactics used by the terrorists to recruit young individuals online and radicalized them (Adhikari et al, 2020). Online recruitment is a growing threat to the agencies since knowing exactly how the communication takes place online and through various pseudo accounts. Terrorists are continuously funded and financed by individuals or organizations with more financial might, and this may be, at times, difficult to trace (Maira, 2020). With finance at their disposal, the terrorists will continue to advance their operations in various forms. The mode of financing keeps changing, making it difficult for the agencies to cut their operations. Additionally, the level of cooperation and information sharing among the various agencies is low. Each institution is struggling to gain credit rather than sharing information to help curb terrorist activities. Also, the financing of the agencies is not made in time, and this limits the capacity of the organizations to fight the terrorists.
Recommendation
The government, through the agencies, should deploy all tools at its disposal to ensure all the online accounts are closely monitored for any suspicious activities, and the terrorists are deprived of all the avenues that can be used to radicalize the youth. An efficient team or commission should be instituted within the agencies to monitor the flow of funds from the suspected organizations or individual accounts to ensure the terrorists are starved financially. Inter-agency communication should also be enhanced with the aim of protecting Americans and not to gain credit. A commission should be formed to unite the agencies towards a common goal. Finally, the government should ensure financial support reaches the agencies in time, and the staff is paid on time to keep them motivated and focused.
In conclusion, terrorism is a menace to the American and should be curbed at all cost. The agencies fighting terrorism and ensuring safety of Americans faces various challenges that prevent them from carrying out their work efficiently. Among the challenges is the increasing online recruitment, communication gap between the agencies, finances available to the terrorist, and the financing of the agencies. These challenges should be addressed to enhance the fight against terrorism.
