From the article, it can be noted that criminologists have an interest in the study of the nature of criminals and crimes committed, etiology o crime, social reactions to crime, origins of criminal law, and the functioning of the penalty institutions and law-enforcement agencies. They are much interested in finding out the kind of people that are involved in crime and those that are not. More so, the criminologists are in the front line to determine how crime can be prevented from taking place. However, there is no definite cause of crime since any deed or intention that leads to the breaking of the law is a crime (Tibbetts, 2015). For example, alcohol and drug abuse, poverty, low self-esteem, and parental neglect are some of the reasons why people break the law. Also, some circumstances force people to become offenders. It has come to my senses that crime can highly be prevented through early intervention (as early as during prenatal and perinatal stages of life) to reduce biological and social risk factors that lead to crime.

2) What will you do with the information learned in this course? How can/will you apply it in your life or career?

The information I have learned in this course will help me in developing a society that is less susceptible or prone to criminal acts. Having a better understanding of the policies that are derived from various theories of criminology will give a better knowledge of how the law is reinforced. It will help me in defending the justice of the poor people in society as they try to seek justice from the courts of law or policymakers.

3) What policy recommendations do you think are most crucial based upon all of the various criminological theories covered in this course? Based upon one or more particular theories of crime that we have discussed, what should we as a society do differently - and what new programs, policies, or laws should be implemented?

To my recommendation, policies that are based on social processes theory are recommendable. For example, the policy to introduce programs that would teach the youth in various ways (behavioral skills) of dealing with peer pressure and other social situations that might end up leading them to crime are recommendable. Further, the policy of professional officers' visit homes as their duty to make sure that the family environment is not problematic and to give pieces of advice on various ways of avoiding crimes (Tibbetts, 2015, p. 220). However, society should try as much as possible to fight poverty since it is one of the significant factors that are associated with the causes of crime. For example, programs that help eradicate poverty in society should be implemented.

Such programs are creating jobs for the youths to keep them busy and be able to provide for themselves and their families. More so, these should be governed by policies that would ensure no youth is idling around the city. When two or more people are gathered together, and there are idle, the chances of committing a crime are high. Laws should be implemented such that whoever is court idling the town will face the law. These will ensure people are busy at their workplace or home, and there will be reduced groups of people idling around.
