According to Ariadne's Thread Reflection, it was a bit difficult in understanding the client's situation. The client was torn apart, that she had no hope of getting back to her whole life, also the fact that she had got to meet different therapist that had not made an impact to her situation but they triggered her severe situation (Cowan, 2017). Her behaviors were not pleasing but found it interesting how she participates in each therapy session with her therapist. Connecting with Chloe was a challenge since she was difficult to deal with. Her troubles had taken a major portion in her world that she thought no one would hear her, making her not taking the sessions seriously.

The therapist had to overcome the attitudes that the client showed, this is when he offers a question about the cuts on her body, desperate to know what of disturbing her. The doctor also knowing the fact that Chloe's case was severe had no option but accepting to deal with it. A suicidal feeling had taken control of her before, knowing it was challenging dealing with her after getting through her file from the previous doctor who was unable to get through Chloe's world and solve her problems, although her case was problematic, he needed to help her deal and overcome her troubles. He needed to help her because he was a postdoctoral resident, a therapist who had empathy for the poor person and did not what the client to suffer.

Dr. Cowan in this scenario made it difficult since he gave his client's question, and in response, the client gave back answers. It would be better after Dr. Cowan realized the girl had a thing with artwork, at least he would make an effort in helping the client to get to an art school. Hereby, he would take Chloe's interest, make a conversation with her parents, and see about what they can do by supporting her in getting through art in school, changing the thoughts of Chloe being pathetic in the art that she could fit well in an art class in school. Dr. Cowan is a good therapist according to my perception since he takes time to go through Chloe's file to piece together what was happening in her life but takes first to have the first session without reading the file so that he can form his impressions.

I would not only start the session with the reading the file but go on with the sessions letting the client speak her troubles and try catching and connecting to her world. This would be a big win of her friendship and aiming to win her trust. Later on, after some time, I would give them information on Chloe's file and try to get to see her partake and coordination in the session. I would make a comparison to what is working better, either with or without having to read through the file but mainly focusing on connecting to her trouble world. Resistance and empathy are important since they create an attraction.

Conclusion

For instance, the resistance theme explains how Chloe manifests to the therapist's interventions and interprets as injurious efforts but the therapists were to help the client. This led to the therapists working on with Chloe's incorrect assumptions. Hereby a question arises on whose reality gets to be referenced as the starting point. Being the client's therapist I would continue with the sessions knowing that the client's interpretation jus brings a therapist dialogue that depicts that the session has an impact in winding up the client's problems. Empathy is not just an emotional resonance but also is a technic to discover the relation between things.

Reflection Questions

  1. Empathy is the main trait of a good therapist, what traits are being displayed by Dr. Cowan
  2. The success of therapy depends on both the client and the Therapist, How are Chloe's wrong assumptions likely to affect the therapy.
