The poor are referred to as people who have little or no money, and they mainly depend on public support or upon charity. There are two main types of poverty which are materially poor and spiritually poor. In Drake's video "Gods plan" it is mainly about helping individuals who are materially poor. As Drake is going around giving money and free things to the poor people are overjoyed by his acts. Most of the rich people have all the material things that they require to have a living. For example, the rich have abundant food, water, furniture cars while on the other hand the poor in the community struggle to even afford the basic needs like food, clothing shelter or water. I do believe that the wealthy should not be praised for helping the less fortunate but rather it should be a requirement or at least expected.
It should be a requirement or at least expected for the rich to help the poor without being praised since the poor did not choose to be poor. The fact that anyone can be born poor or rich should not be ignored, and therefore it becomes unfair when a group of people is left to suffer just because of what they were born into. The rich are expected to give the poor a helping hand because their achieved status was mostly brought to them by the environment in which they were born. The rich have an ethical responsibility of donating some portion of their wealth to the poor to give them an opportunity to of making their future better and as well as improve their lives as the donation helps in reducing their struggles. For example in the video Gods plan by Drake he issues a cheque for scholarships worth 50,000 dollars at the University of Miami. Through this, the poor can get educated and be taught life skills while at school which is one way in which they can be helped to live a better life since an educated person has the right knowledge and skills that can help them get a good job and hence in a position to earn and improve their living.
The wealthy are expected to help the poor without expecting to be praised in turn because that is the only way through which the society can progress. We currently live in a society that advanced after people adopted disciplined beliefs of assisting others. If people never helped each other the society would have been ruined by personal rivalry as well as obsession concerning our well-being.t is through helping the poor and less fortunate in the society that we can empower them to have the willingness to help once their lives improve and therefore the livelihood of everyone tends to improve. The society and mostly the wealthy are required to bring one another up which is only possible through helping one another. For example in the Gods plan video by Drake, he gives off to the poor from the willingness of his heart because he does not choose who to help, but rather he walks by the roadside and give money to the beggars on the street. In the Gods plan Video when he says that he gave all away all the money that they had budgeted for the video and said that they should not say the label is an indication that he did not want to be to be praised as he does not want to be advertised to the public since when the public become aware they will start praising his actions.
It is the obligation of the rich to help the poor because helping others puts peace and a smile on the face of God. The rich should consider helping the poor as a blessing and therefore they do not require to be praised for giving such help. The rich are supposed to help the poor because most of the rich people were not born rich they started from a humble background and worked their way to the top to be rich and therefore by giving back to the society is a way of remaining humble and not forgetting their roots where they came from. They should go back to the projects or whenever they were born raised as testimonies. The act would inspire the youth to do better with them being their role models. It would also be an avenue to educate them on paths to follow in pursuit of success and happiness. The rich should help the poor from the willingness of their heart and not to show off to other people or to be praised or because at the end of the year they want a tax write-off from the charities they have contributed towards. In most cases, organizations and wealthy people make a provision for charities; this is because such amounts attract a tax-exempt benefit which reduces their taxable income. Therefore, some can use charities for the sake of tax avoidance, which is legal. Giving out handouts works both for them as well as the people they help. This is more of a trickledown effect rather than charity. It is evident in the Gods plan video by Drake that when he helps the poor by giving them money and free things they smile and become happy for example when Drake walks into the supermarket and says that everyone should shop whatever they want for free everyone is excited and happy as they do the shopping and hence when the rich help the poor they put a smile on their face ("Drake - God's Plan").
The rich have a moral obligation to help the poor, and therefore when a rich person gives money to aid organizations they should not be considered as being charitable but as their responsibility, because they can afford to do that without having to sacrifice much in return. Let us play the devil's advocate for a minute and decipher the intention behind the highly publicized charity work of the rapper, Drake. In his interview, he openly says that the money he gave out was meant for the shoot of the video. It, therefore, implies that regardless the money would have been spent but rather, in an extravagant way. Listening in more keenly to the lyrics, do not solely preach humanity and charity. Drake gives out the money because even after giving out he is still in a position of living a good life, and hence the extra can be used to help the needy rather than using that money in other activities which do not add value in another person's life.
The rich should help the poor without expecting to be praised since even God expects the poor to be helped. God expects that the poor should be helped without any discrimination. The rich should not consider the poor as people who deserve to be associated with the low status as no one is allowed to judge others. For example in the video of Gods plan by Drake, it does not matter how a person ended up being poor so that he can help them all Drake is concerned about is ensuring that he helps those who are in need of help. This is evident since he is not seen asking questions on how they ended being poor, but he just gives them the money. From another angle, Drake owes his fans what he gave out to them. It is the support from his fans who attend the concerts and buy the albums and music he can afford all the luxuries he enjoys plus the money. He should, therefore, out of appreciation play a part in such 'charitable 'acts. Conclusion
In conclusion, I believe that the rich should help the poor without expecting to be praised as that is one of their requirement or at least is expected from them. Many wealthy people have been criticized for not being Philanthropists, and Steve Jobs is one of those wealthy men that are often mentioned. Regardless of their reasons I believe it is important that everyone offered help to the less fortunate. This is because everyone is special and no one should be sideline. The only difference between the rich and the poor is money.
