Sultan Ahmed Mosque has an architecture that has four minarets. Sultan Ahmed Mosque has six domes and contains eight different secondary domes (J 44-49). The Mosque was built inside the Qibla walls. The architect built Sultan Ahmed Mosque facing Mecca city. Additionally, he later constructed the Mosque with turrets on the corner pillars of the dome. Both female and male Muslims kneel in prayers on the Sultan Ahmed Mosque. They sing their prayers loudly, five times every day, and prayers being chanted are carried out in four directions.
The Acropolis of Athens is an ancient religious architecture that is located on the rocky ridge above the Athens city. The religious building has some remains of the old buildings of great historical significance. For instance, the Parthenon which is located at the pinnacle of the architecture. The Acropolis Athen is usually considered by many people to be the most beautiful building on the globe. Many say it is lovely because the building is built in the Doric order, but with many subtle proportions and elements. The portions and details can only be viewed on closer inspection and measurement from the building. The building was used for various functions by the Athenians, including religious purposes.
There is an excellent relation between form and purpose in architecture as discussed in the paper. Firstly, the "shape of the structure" should relate to its intended purpose (Zampollo 234-247). For instance, a church should have paintings and drawings that relate to religious activities. The paintings can have white shades to indicate holiness of the temple. The shape of the structure can have some meaning towards the building. This way they can show the greatness of the architecture or remembrance of the history of the religion. For example, drawings of Jesus Christ to prove it is a place of worshipping.
Secondly, size of the structure relates to its purpose. A building constructed for worshipping has a different capacity from government buildings. While building a government building, it serves very many citizens in the country, and hence, it has a large capacity. The size of the building could be used to show the particular purpose of a construction. For example, larger buildings were used to serve a huge number of people in a given nation. Thus, the size of the structure gave purpose to a certain building. Form relates to purpose when a building is built upon its function.
Thirdly, the "decoration that the structure has indicates its use" (Rashid 543-549). For instance, a commercial building has very many decorations, with the aim of attracting customers to the enterprise. A commercial building may have many decorations to be attractive and appealing to its purpose of business. There were also other decorations that could be used to indicate the purpose of a construction. For instance, during festivals like Easter, the presence of palm leaves in front of a church could signify the festival. This is used to show that the construction was a religious place. Various buildings are decorated differently to show the difference in their use.
Architecture is one of the most important forms of art. Style plays some critical roles in design. For instance, architectural terms, worship, residential, commerce, or for community and Government. Form plays various roles in religious groups. Firstly, it helps the faithful to plan how to demarcate their building. It shows the groups where their congregation can sit while attending sermons. Secondly, it aids the groups with ideas on how best to decorate their structures. For instance, they can have different symbols on the walls, paint various colors in their respective areas, for example, paint red color on walls to show blood of Jesus.
The form is used to meet the particular needs of other society or groups through some means. For example, the types of structures, styles of structures, preferences, purpose, and culture of the organization or individual groups. Firstly, the choices were satisfied through decoration. The form was met when structures for particular society was decorated as preferred by the respective organizations. Various embellishments were used. Secondly, the style was satisfied through the different purpose of structures. For example, a worshipping center had different sculpture themes from commercial structures. Hence, individuals knew the structures served different roles from their sculpture themes.
Thirdly, the type of structures built. The form was met when a structure was created with a particular material. For instance, use of stones to build Mosques. They were used to show their difference with other structures in the surroundings. Fourth, depending on the significance of the feature. Some buildings were built in the hilly places. This made it easy for the inhabitants to differentiate the structures from other buildings. Those are some of the ways form is used to meet the needs of the particular group.
