In Christianity, the life of humans is viewed as sacred and is gifted by God to be protected and respected. The Sanctity of Life is the name for the teaching. The Bible assures human beings that God created them in his image. It also guides them by saying that it is forbidden for one to commit murder (Lindemann, Andreas, 257). Jesus Christ reminds the believers that every human is valuable to God, very precious that their hairs on the head are all counted by God.
In Christianity, Jesus Christ also taught the significance of appreciating and loving our neighbors. Jesus Christ said, "The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these." (New International Version, Mark 12:31). This message also applies in the case of abortion as the fetus is viewed as a neighbor, and the mother should consider the idea and avoid abortion (Stensvold, Anne, 40).
In Christianity, God is a foundation of life, and no one can limit somebody's life. In this case., God created humankind through his image, and therefore abortion should not be contemporary in Christian life. Christians correspondingly believe that God is an ultimate being to his creatures; thus, human life is an indispensable part of creatures. Abortion is against God's commandments. The fifth commandment says that you shall not kill, in connection to this, abortion is forbidden in the Christian life (Schoenig 35.
In Christianity, abortion is a wicked practice which the women should avoid. Christian leaders should give guidance and counseling to offenders to limit abortion practices. Christians also understand that God sent his son to save humankind. This implies that God loves his people and the illegitimate practices, for instance, the killing must be taken as detrimental practice in Christian life.
Christians also believe that humankind is the children of God by which everyone should respect each other, and therefore, abortion gives a reflection of lacking respect and faith from God (Cizkova Klara, 23). Christians also understand that life begins from conceptions, meaning that pregnant women should protect an infant and should not abort until the time of conceiving.
In Christianity, people believed that God knows everyone even before conception. Thus, abortion unacceptable because God understands the end of human life. Furthermore, Christian believers should give guidance and counseling to pregnant women (Jones, 35). The guidance should include the abolition of abortion in human life.
What does this mean in practice?
The believers of Christianity understand and apply the principles that guide the sanctuary virtual of life in different ways on the abortion matter. Different views may be heard within the church. Four significant ideas include:
Absolute moral. It says that under all circumstances, abortion is not right.
Pro-choice. It means that the woman is responsible for deciding if she is going to undergo an abortion since she has the right over her own body. A portion of the Christians has the thought that a woman has a right to have a safe abortion, and it demonstrates understanding when the law permits this (McIvor, Meadhbh, 337).
Pro-life. A couple of Christians, like many Orthodox Christians and Roman Catholics, believe that it is morally wrong to undergo an abortion since they have the idea that the life of human beings starts at conception (Schoenig 35). They only make an exception if it saves the life of the mother if there is no way the fetus can be protected.
Relative moral. In particular situations, abortion can be permitted.
In conclusion, many arguments have been made for or against abortion, as many people debate using various beliefs. They may or may not agree with the different cases. Different believers may be in a situation they have massive sympathy with the idea that every individual needs to decide for themselves. However good the idea is, the concept of life is sacred might outweigh all judgments.
