Introduction
The two scriptures, Isaiah 2:1-5 and Joel 3:7-12 give contradicting views regarding the adoption of technology in administering God's ministry and the community as well. For instance, Isiah 2: 4 states that "they will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks" which contradicts Joel: 10 that states that, "Beat your plowshares into swords and your pruning hooks into spears" (New International Version, 2019). Looking at these two statements, it is evident that Isaiah strives to stress that people tend to use tools for the benefit of humankind as opposed to destructive tools used in wars. In this case, people use these tools in beneficial aspects such as farming (Brasseaux, 2016). On the other hand, Joel affirms that instead, human beings utilize these tools in wars and providing protection within the society.
Although these two scriptures provide a contradicting insight, they are essential in the contemporary business world especially with the consistent development in technology. Therefore, as people seek to adopt the emerging technological tools, they need to embrace the teachings derives from the two readings to ensure that they serve the community as per the God's teachings. People need to understand that according to Joel, there are times when weapons and swords are necessary especially during wars, and in such cases, people beat the plowshares into swords. However, once the war has ended, and peace reigns the world, then, the weapons are no longer necessary (Brasseaux, 2016). People now focus on agricultural production by using the swords and weapons in farming.
Furthermore, technology development has come to be due to various reasons. Majorly, it aids in responding to social problems, connecting the global community, and more importantly, making the society a better place (Mitchel, Pfeiffer & Miller, 2011). It has been necessitated through the innovation of new tools including communication devices, internet, air travel in connecting global communities, and more effective medical equipment that help in enhancing the health and quality of life within the community.
