Introduction

Chrysalids, a book written by John Wyndham that focuses on David who has a dream about a city he has never seen before. He is advised by her sister not to speak about it since there are numerous beliefs in the area they live in. David has the ability to speak telepathically which is believed to be evil in this community and is advised by his uncle that his gift could get him persecuted.

The book provides illustrations of how the people of Waknukians had numerous beliefs that led them to persecute and casting away the people who were thought to be abnormal. Each cbeast which may be similar human, and does not look alike to human. It can either be a man or woman. It is a desecration against the true image of God, which is hateful in the sight of God" (Wyndham, 40). This leads to the elders and members of the community acting cruelly on these people.

The book illustrates that their beliefs lead them to perform actions that were cruel and that the people thought that the abnormally formed individuals in the society were the problem to society. David came to find out later that the problems in the society were caused by the people and elders in Waknukians which would not be understood due to the beliefs that were highly relied on in the community. David, his telepath counterparts, and the people with abnormal body features face tribulation in the Waknukians community. Numerous people in the community have major beliefs that lead them to acting harsh on these people. They chase some people and kill others as a way to cleanse the community off these people that they believe as work of the devil.

The community believe that they were in danger by having these people in the community thus cast them out of the community. These cast people and the others who run away from the Waknukians community gather in the neighborhood and attack the village later in the book. During a battle between these people and those in the Waknukians community, a woman from Zealand come to the rescue of David and his counterparts (Wyndham, 200). She kills the people from the Waknukians community and takes David and Petra to Zealand.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the beliefs in society led to the people being cruel in a manner they did not understand they were the problem. The author of the book illustrates that the cruel elders and the people of the Waknukians with the wicked beliefs were blinded to see the cruel action they were doing making them the danger in society. This danger they caused could not be clearly seen by the people of the community since they also had the same beliefs thus making the elders a danger that the entire community could not understand. My opinion from the book is that the people of the Waknukians community thought that the people with abnormal features and abilities were a danger to the community but died in the hands of a woman from Zealand. This shows that the danger was not within their border but far from what they could think
