Introduction
Tennis, my favorite sport, has a commanding 1 billion followers and fans around the world. Tennis is ranked at number five as the most popular and followed sport globally. Tennis, also known as "game of the palm," is believed to have originated in northern France around the 12th century. Since then, tennis has tremendously developed not only as a form of entertainment but also as a lucrative source of income. Tennis serves as a means of expediently connecting people across the globe fostering new friendships. Individuals should consider playing tennis, as it improves cardiovascular health and helps build confidence and self-esteem.
Any individual who wishes to improve their cardiovascular health should consider playing tennis as a free time game of choice. The improvement of health is probably the best benefit of playing tennis. During the whole period of playing tennis, a player is constantly running, jogging, and walking, keeping the heart rate up and hence providing an excellent cardiovascular exercise (Cohen-Zada et al., 175). The constant movement by a player helps strengthen their hearts. Excess calories are burnt in the process, and it resists plaque build-up in the coronary arteries, potentially reducing the risk of blood pressure.
Are you living a sedentary lifestyle? Tennis is your sport. Arguably, a sedentary lifestyle has numerous health risks such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Instead of enrolling in the local gym for rigorous bone-breaking exercise with a strict diet, you should consider playing some tennis. It is an excellent sport for burning body fat; this is because it directly engages your muscles and heart in different ways. It also helps to build more body mass and burns more fat by recruiting both slow-twitch and fast-twitch muscle fibers (Cohen-Zada et al., 180). Opposed to a general gym workout, players continuously switch between using aerobic and anaerobic energy pathways hence lowering body fat and improving muscle tone much faster and in an exciting way.
As a Tennis player, I can confidently allude to the fact that playing tennis has dramatically increased my confidence and self-esteem. Building physical strength and endurance have a direct impact on the player's confidence both on and off the pitch. Self-esteem and confidence are a great addition to the individual's general performance in career, family, friendship, and life (Cohen-Zada et al., 188). "The feel-good endorphins "released into the body after physical exercise are significant stress and anxiety reducers. Notably, several studies point to exercise as being a highly effective treatment of depression and anxiety.
Tennis promotes teamwork and sharing. Whereas fitness goals are generally personal, people can all relate to benefiting from sharing common goals with other like-minded individuals who push us towards a similar initiative? The ability of a player to work together with other teammates in the field can be easily translated into public life. Tennis players mind each other, and together, they make a formidable force. The togetherness is a powerful aspect that, when borrowed in our daily lives, can aid in the achievement of a milestone (Davis, Paul, and Lisa 389). It is a game that has united me and my friends, a place where we play and have girl talks and chats. The game acts as a relief to our anxiety and share our aspirations on how we can positively change the world.
Good Nutritional habits. As a tennis player, maintaining proper eating habits is mandatory and comes handy. A proper and well-balanced diet before a match enhances energy production and therefore improving the player's performance rate. Likewise, a good meal after the match ensures that the energy used during the game is recovered. The bottom line, playing tennis, helps in developing proper nutritional habits that come along with numerous help benefits to an individual (Davis 401). A nutritious diet is good for anyone.
Regular playing helps one to exercise and maximize bone mass at a young age. According to the research conducted by the National Institute for Health (NIH), bone mass is at its peak at around 30 years and gradually begins to decline afterward. Playing tennis helps to strengthen and increase bone density; therefore, improving the health of the bone. Strong and dense bones reduce the risk of osteoporosis, which is the disease of the bones (Davis 403).
Body coordination is the key to tennis. Player's body coordination is improved through complex movements like running, turning, jumping, and passing performed by varying rates of speed and direction. Tennis players can move over a distance in a short time and still be able to strike the ball. A good mastery of body coordination is a critical element in the daily movements, like when walking, running, sprinting, or jogging (Davis 407). It helps people carry themselves with ease, reducing instances of getting injured.
Playing tennis increases cognitive brain function. Tennis is a fast-paced game that requires quick decisions on the field. From movement in the court to ball-striking, it can be explained by increased skills in concentration, persistence, and gross motor control. Also, the use of lobs, drop shots, and touch shoot tennis can be used to exercise fine player motor and general control (Cohen-Zada et al., 184). The game has offered a game-changing moment to my education. As a young lady, I have been able to clearly and consistently comprehend facts within my areas of studies, and the results have been amazing.
Tennis also serves as a means of expediently connecting people across the world. It attracts thousands of supporters who flock in various tennis courts in different parts of the world to follow live performances. People from different walks of life get the opportunity to mingle, make new friends, and have fun through sporting events. Online communities that support tennis superstars have emerged, further fostering relationships. Historically, sports have been used as a tool for promoting peace and cementing relationships amongst different communities and countries (Cohen-Zada et al., 186).
Roger Federer remains to be the most iconic and perhaps most celebrated tennis player of all time. Both pundits and experts allude to this fact. Federer holds onto the world record of 18 Grand Slam titles, and between the years 2004 and 2008, Federer held onto the position one spot for a record 237 consecutive weeks (Davis 402). Serena Williams is also one of the most successful tennis players in the women category.
I draw a lot of inspiration from these individuals. Indeed no human is incapacitated to achieving great goals and dreams in life. I have always wanted to play like Serena Williams because I have believed in her hard work and, most importantly, the joy that comes along with the game. Recently, Naomi Osaka proved to be a worthy challenge, but I still admire Serena William's skills more.
Conclusion
In summary, tennis is a game that is fancied by many, but a majority of the fans are female. It is a game-changer considering the many benefits that come with playing the game. Some of the benefits are on the promotion of teamwork, provision of regular exercise, an acceleration of mental activity, and a source of entertainment. The paper has also noted some of the great sporting personalities that I identify with, for example, Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka.
