Introduction
System thinking entails a holistic approach aimed at analyzing and focusing on the way the various parts of a system interrelate and function to make systematic decisions pertaining to critical issues in the society. It involves the identification of the behavior patterns over a given period of time together with the underlying structures. Through system thinking, complex problems can be solved, and sanity restored in society. Therefore, system thinking plays a crucial role in enhancing equality and helping the less fortunate in the community.

Youth violence is on the rise, hence the need to campaign and reduce the rampage. Streets violent has been rampant in most cities in the United States, leading to an increase in the homicide rate, in which youths kill one another. The alarming rate has led to campaigns by various groups and individuals. According to Jeffrey, he started to preach the violence in the community and how this could be curtailed, by looking at the programming in his church to catch those who are on the fence of the violence. The campaign in Boston has led to a reduction in the killing rate by 79% (TED, 2015). The presentation aim at discussing the need to build the community by creating a program to catch those involved in the violence.
There are various aspects key to reducing the menace, among them volunteering in the high schools and walking from one household to another, preaching the need for peace and preservation of humanity. In order to aid in the reduction, listening was crucial for determining the challenges encountered when it comes to life in the street—understanding the energy in the street and why people react in a particular way. Viewing the street community as a problem to be solved by involving the church to enhance harmony was crucial.
The various stakeholder such as judges, police officers, probation officers, and others on the law enforcement chain played a crucial role in alleviating the problem. Additionally, the inclusion of various community leaders in the grassroots campaign is essential in creating a vital community component and enhancing the harmony within the community through the reduction in the violence rate. There is a need to address the structural issues within the society to jointly curb the vice. Political play should ensure that police brutality is curtailed, especially towards the black.
The system has, however, been criticized for the responsibility of escalating this problem even further extrajudicial killings and imprisonment policies. In addition, many blacks and white activists blame the judicial system for exalting excess discrimination on the black community and, worse, describing them as racists. This feeling has created ambivalence and mistrust of the blacks towards law enforcers, which is a reality that can no longer be taken for granted. In reality, it is enough reasons to say that there is a dark reason behind their troubles, which the white counterparts have fallen short. The sad truth is, however, that even the middle-class blacks shy from entering this community since they feel that these troubled kids are not part of them, making the distance great. The outside community has also directed resentment and hate toward this community, stating that these places are irredeemable.
What Makes the Way of Thinking Different From the Traditional Approaches
There is a sharp contrast in the way of thinking, as addressed by Jeffrey Brown in the video. The traditional approach is mainly clouded with the thoughts inclined towards the black, who are viewed as an outcast. There is the racial belief that blacks should not get equal opportunities in society; hence they are denied access to essential services and equal opportunities. The unemployment rate rises among the blacks forcing most youths into the streets to fend for themselves and their families. Consequently, the youths become defiant and cold-blooded to the law agencies in place, leading to the rise in the gun confrontation between them and the police.
Additionally, the youths engulf in drug addiction, and to some extent, they have to commit various forms of crimes in order to sustain their desire for drugs. In the traditional approach, housing policies mainly favored certain races, while the blacks were left to settle in areas not ideal like the rest. The gap between the youth and the law enforcement officers also led to the rise in the animosity level in which the policemen were highly despised instead of being embraced.
The way of thinking by Jeffrey Brown is ideal for community change as it aimed to bridge the existing gap between the families on the street and the community as a whole. There is the value when the partnership is embraced in society from all the levels. This calls for the law enforcement agencies, the various private sectors, city administrations, local leaders, churches, and the judicial system in order to reduce the violence rate in the country.
The approach is aimed at understanding what those on the street go through by being close to them and viewing their day to day activities. There is a need to help those frustrated within the cities by rehabilitate them to understand the purpose of life amidst racism and denied opportunities. Strengthening the community bond and support should be accorded to the leaders with the initiative aimed at reducing the suffering. From the grassroots community, it should be the responsibility of everyone to ensure the unfortunate ones are well taken care of in society.
The traditional approach view opportunities as aspects that only belong to a few people in the society. The blacks are left without jobs hence forcing them to commit crimes leading to the brutal confrontation with the police. According to Jeffrey, reducing the animosity among the street families and between the police would be crucial in reducing the homicide rates in the country. All the judicial systems need to understand the need to rehabilitate the youth without viewing them as criminals, and this would prevent the social structures from sagging and create fear among society.
Listening to the youth and trying to communicate to them the need have a different life, is essential in convincing them to change, and this calls for individuals to be at the forefront in the society to lead in the fight against gun killings. Embracing people from diverse communities regardless of their race or skin color is key for changing the notion on the streets. Looking at the youths as co-partners and co-laborers in the struggle to reduce violence in the society, as highlighted, is crucial in winning their trust, understanding the lives they live in at night.
Through the church, which is considered neutral, people can be brought together as the church spearheads the initiatives. In order to solve the issue of a weak community, a high level of cooperation should be enhanced between all the stakeholders. Through the partnership, violence will be reduced in the cities, and sanity will be restored again.
Conclusion
In conclusion, there is a rising need to reduce the rate of violence in various cities within the United States. Racial discrimination should be curbed at all costs, and everyone has equal opportunity regardless of their background. Social structures play a pivotal role in bringing sanity in the country hence the need to strengthen the structure and the institutions designed to advocate for human rights. The partnership between all sectors, including the private sectors, religious leaders, police forces, judicial officers, community leaders, and government institutions, should be enhanced to promote reconciliation and enhancement of understanding with the street families. Additionally, there is a need for policies aimed at reducing the inequality levels and promote inclusion of everyone, no matter the race, into the development agendas. Rehabilitation campaigns should also be promoted to transform the lives of those in the street.
