Introduction
Supply chain is an essential concept in the business context as the following process that ensures the sale of goods or services from the producer. A successful accomplishment of a supply chain project depends on different segments to which other tasks are assigned. A significant element is logistics, which guarantees effective and efficient storage and transportation of goods to the consumers. While goods and services are targeted to reach the customers, it is essential to determine the strategy to be used to ensure that the objective on the same is achieved (Flynn et al., 2020). Ultimately, the supply chain is affected in some way. On the same note, another important aspect is timing. This paper analyzes the concepts of logistics and supply chains covering the meaning and importance logistics on satisfying customer requirements for a product or service, and managerial issues influencing logistics and supply chain.
Meaning and Importance of Logistics
Logistics refers to the planning and execution process to transport and store goods efficiently between the points of origin and consumption. The focus of the process is to ensure that the needs of the customer are met in a cost-effective and timely manner. The execution of a logistics process is prompted by the need to strategize on how goods are stored and transported. Besides, it is also essential to determine when the storage and transportation should be achieved.
Logistics is adequately essential in meeting customer needs for goods and services, in many ways; for one, the activities accomplished towards logistics in a business organization guarantee timely connection with customers. According to Flynn et al. (2020), they solve challenges related to urgency issues whereby products or services are required to be provided with limited time. Moreover, logistics consider strategies that ensure market challenges associated with location do not arise. The processes are designed to ensure that transportation ultimately reaches out to customers so that they are not worried about accessing services from distant places. The design of the supply chain also considers the quality that customers experience out of the goods and services they receive while considering their purchasing power as well.
Managerial Issues Influencing Logistics and Directly Impacting the Supply Chain
A critical managerial issue is a problem associated with risk management and planning. At some points, it becomes very challenging for the government to achieve a practical assessment, which should be done regularly. These are vital adjustments that should be accomplished periodically; however, as a managerial function in organizations, it is not apparent; therefore, failures on the same occur. Consequently, lack of the associated adjustments implies significant difficulty in managing and working towards the need for responding to the changes that happen in the market, like global sourcing, credit availability, product launches, and protection of the intellectual property. They manifest as serious risks, and managers have a challenging interventional task in mitigating their effects in a logistical process (Jedlinski, 2015). While the dangers could be overwhelming to the management, identifying and quantifying may not happen; therefore, they end up beyond control or moderation, thus reducing the chances of success of a supply chain exercise.
The other managerial issue rises with the uncertainty in achieving an effective partnership with other organizations in a logistics task and ultimately influencing the supply chain. While the management recognizes the need for creating, understanding, and following a mutually agreed-upon standard, they end up failing to choose wisely (Touboulic et al., 2020). In the end, a better understanding of current performance and improvement many not be experienced.
Logistics Managerial Issues and Customer Dissatisfaction/Satisfaction
A personal experience on a managerial issue that led to customer dissatisfaction was poor communication between the various sections. The management of the organization in question failed to recognize the need for coordinating the roles played by individual sectors, which contribute towards the giant objective of the supply chain. Jedlinski (2015) observed that it is important to note that logistics are involved tasks that cannot be accomplished by individuals or a single group, but different people are signed duties; however, they are related as one stage leads to the other. For the given organization, the management did not commit proper communication between sections. In the end, customer dissection occurred in almost all dimensions, including late supply and goods, and services were no longer needed.
On the other hand, I also experienced an instance when the interventional of managerial issues led to the achievement of success regarding customer satisfaction. This occurred in the form of proper planning, especially in terms of transportation. This emerged essentially to ensure that goods would reach the points of consumption when still fresh, which was the expectation s of customers, hence they were satisfied.
Conclusion
Logistics is a crucial component of the supply chain, which contributes to the mission of reaching out to customers, with desirable conditions to both the organization involved and the consumers. The approaches n strategies adopted for logistics determine the success of the supply chain. However, succeeding in the logistics exercises is not guaranteed; therefore, the management has a challenging task to determine that customer satisfaction is ultimately achieved even as much they focus on attaining profitability.
