From the talk, I can tell that connection between our friends and family is why we exist. This is what gives our lives the meaning it deserves. For us to develop the much-needed connection a sense of self-worth has to be present in our part to have healthy relationships. My healthy relationship with others will be facilitated by the courage of who I am and the unapologetically expression of compassionate towards my loved ones. Moreover, I should be willing to let go who I think I am to who I deserve to be. This is me leaving behind the idea of being perfect.

How my mother dares to be vulnerable

My mother has this tendency of pouring her whole heart to us as a family. She is courageous enough to express tender, love, and care without withholding any shred of tenderness.

The contradiction between emotional expression and exaggerated language

The emotional expression comes out naturally, and it can be considered to be true from the heart. To achieve the perceived vulnerability levels, the emotional expressions have to be facilitated by the exaggerated languages to bear the weigh it deserves. However, exaggerated languages may not necessarily come from the heart.

According to Brene, shame and gender are greatly connected as she says, "the messages of shame are organized around gender." There exist differences of shame experienced between men and women. From her findings, Brene noted that their fellow men do not majorly initiate the shame experienced by men. However, the women are the ones who are repelled when men express the chinks from their side. It is considered risky for the men to practice vulnerability. Moreover, men are not expected by the society to fall apart as this is considered left for the women to explore their emotions publicly.

Communication of emotion

The trait of openness to experience enables coming to terms with your emotional experience. We ought to acknowledge the feeling of being hurt in the first place which is a step towards healing. This will help an individual to rise from adversity by telling of your feelings to be able to reckon with the true story eliciting the feelings.

Behavior on social media

The fallacy behind the behavior on social media is majorly the Ad populum. It is whereby someone justifies his excessive social media use from the fact that everybody else is using the platform. Hence, this behavior should be acceptable.

Discussion Question

Are men justified to express and embrace their emotions in public with the same weight as the women?
