Introduction
The song, "Welcome to my Life" by simple plan contains lyrics that describe the difficulty of life. Life is faced by several challenges especially at the adolescent stage where teenagers have to cope with various issues in different environments such as school and their homes. An example of such challenges includes being abused by parents and having to deal with bullies in learning institutions. It can be argued that failure to receive love from the surrounding environment causes the songwriters to describe their feeling in the song. They hate life due to its cruelty. It appears that it is difficult to fit in any environment, a factor that causes the songwriters to hate life. The song is a perfect representation of the iGen especially in terms of the challenges that are faced by this generation. iGen refers to the young individuals who were born between the period 1995-2012 (Institute for Emerging Issues). According to American history, iGen represents the most relevant generation especially due to the factors of size and composition (Institute for Emerging Issues). In this essay, a clear analysis of the song "Welcome to my Life" by Simple Plan will be made; connections between the song and its representation of the iGen will also be made to develop a further understanding of the internet generation.
The lyrics of the song are a clear indication of the singers' frustration with life. Some of the lyrics describe how the singer feels out of place in almost every situation. The lyrics are therefore an indication of how life can be stressful due to challenges that are difficult to get rid of. An example of such lyrics includes, "Do you ever feel like breaking down?" and "Do you ever wanna run away?" (Genius). Such lyrics can be used to describe the iGen in the sense that this generation is expected to face several challenges in the future. One of the challenges is health concerns. Due to the lifestyle of the iGen, it is expected that it will be faced with several cases of obesity. This occurrence will be caused by a lack of involvement in engaging work which can allow the generation to exercise their bodies. Technological advancements will cause the generation to rely on machines for almost everything. Office work, which is preferred by this generation, will result in health-related issues. The food that will be consumed by this generation will also result in health concerns. If such predictions are accurate, the iGen will, therefore, be frustrated with life due to the high number of disease cases. The iGen will not enjoy life at adulthood stages, nor will it find medical interventions that can improve the quality of its lifestyle. Health concerns will make people in the generation to develop the desire of "running away" from their situations due to the pain that will be caused by diseases such as obesity and cancer.
The relationship between lives has also been made in this song where the singers' lives are described as challenging and less attractive compared to those of other people. Comparisons are normally made to identify the differences in terms of the benefits and disadvantages of different situations. In this case, the singers would prefer to be live other peoples' lives to escape reality. Such comparisons can be made in the iGen and the other generations such as the Millennials. The millennials refer to the generation which was born between 1981 and 1995 (Institute for Emerging Issues). In terms of health, people born in the Millennials generation are expected to have better health during their adulthood compared to those born in the iGen. As a result, the Millennials are therefore expected to live longer, and healthier lives compared to the iGen. This occurrence will cause the iGen to desire the lives of the Millennials, especially during the adulthood stage since it will be characterized by fewer struggles in terms of health. The generation will not be required to visit medical organizations more often compared to the iGen. This generation will not only face health challenges during adulthood but also during other stages such as early adulthood and adolescent stage. During adulthood, the iGen will, therefore, be involved in cases of comparing their lives to those of Millennials. This occurrence can be related to the description of the song by Simple Plan.
Different generations will not be in a position to understand the various challenges faced by the iGen, a factor that can be related to the song. Despite being in a period that has some of the best medical advancements, this generation is still expected to be affected by the issue of obesity. Research shows that out of every 100 iGen kids, 47 will be obese by adulthood (Institute for Emerging Issues). The contradicting cases of health and medical advancements tend to raise questions concerning this generation. An example of such questions "why medical advancements can be employed to intervene in the health concerns which are predicted to affect the iGen by the time they reach adulthood?" Lack of understanding can also be drawn from the song written by Simple Plan in the sense that its impossible to understand their experiences. An example of lyrics that highlight this occurrence include:
"To be hurt, to feel lost
To be left out in the dark
To be kicked when you're down
To feel like you've been pushed around
To be on the edge of breaking down
And no one's there to save you
No, you don't know what it's like
Welcome to my life" (Genius)

Some of the challenges cause people to desire the lives of others due to the belief that they would have fewer issues to deal with. The writers of the song were also interested in highlighting the difficulties of trying to understand the lives of people who are struggling. Some people attempt to understand and relate to the challenges of others. Most of the themes of the song can be related to the iGen especially in the adulthood of people involved in this generation. Health concerns will be the major challenge that will face the generation. People in the generation will desire to escape their lives due to the pain caused by these challenges. Comparisons will be made with the lives of the Millennials who will be able to live longer and healthier lives. It will also be difficult to understand the challenges that will be faced by the iGen during adulthood.
