Introduction
Drug and substance abuse has increased in the world. The number of drug users in Kuwait is reported to have intensely increased with the majority of victims being the youth. Currently, more than twenty thousand people in Kuwait are addicted to the use of drugs (Martinasek et al.32). Majority of these addicted people are using illegal drugs like cannabis, cocaine, and heroin. The source of drugs is from dealers operating either locally or internationally. Addiction develops after prolonged use of the drugs. The dealers sell the drugs individually to the users, and in most cases, they form gangs. Current research conducted by a health agency has outlined factors that drive the youth towards drug abuse and addiction. The results of the study depict an alarming phenomenon indicating a higher prevalence among teenagers and young adults. The number of young men using drugs is more significant than those of young women. From the research, more than 75 per cent of youth are using illegal drugs. The use of prohibited drugs is related to alcohol consumption. Most young people are ignorant when they are drunk; therefore, end up using the illegal drug.
Addiction and Drug Dealing
The youth purchase the drugs directly from the producers. Most of the available drugs are expensive; therefore, a normal unemployed young person cannot afford to buy the prescription regularly. Since addiction forces the user to access the drug frequently, he/she will be able to create a close interaction with the recognised producer or dealer. The bond formed between the addicted user and the producer may lead to reduction in the selling price of the drug (Ismayilova et al. 13). Rampant use of the drugs in public provokes the law enforcement groups like the police; therefore, the addicted user has to look for possible strategies that can be used to avoid prosecution. The manufacturer protects the regular customers and dealers obtained from the producer. In other cases, the addicted drug users turn into the dealer to support their habits. After getting enough drugs for their consumption, they sell the surplus on the streets for them to get money and purchase for another day.
Many drug dealers are the most significant consumers of drugs. Drug dealing is a serious crime that cannot be performed by a reasonable person; therefore, they use drugs to gain courage. Some drug addicts become dealers as a way to identify themselves to a particular group. The availability of the drugs to users drives them into dealing because the demands may be higher than supply in some places. The complex relationship developed between addicted users and manufacturers makes it hard for the police to identify a particular user in the community. Drug dealing enables an individual to gains skills on how to escape authority. In some case, drug dealers may not be useful since some of them ventured into the activity as a business opportunity.
Mental and Body Problems
Drugs have various negative impacts on the health of the users. Addicted people are mostly affected due to prolonged adverse effects of illegal drugs. Hallucination is one of the common mental problem experienced by bang and heroin user. In this case, molecules can pass through the blood-brain barrier and enter into the brain cells. Upon their arrival in the brain tissues, they alter with the normal functioning of the nerve cells, therefore, causing a mental disturbance. Secondly, memory loses arises from the inability of the brain cells to function normally. Critical thinking relies on the ability to remember a thing and make an appropriate decision. Addicted users are not able to think critically the way a reasonable person does. In Kuwait, many youths are on the streets just looking for some dugs to satisfy their body needs. Loss of memory affects their academic performance because since reasoning capacity is lowered by the drugs.
A health condition that arises from the use of drugs depends on the type the drug and route used to administer the medication. For example, cocaine and heroin are injected directly into the bloodstream. The inability to reason usually drives them to share a syringe during the injection. The consequences of this ignorance are severe because it leads to severe infections like HIV/AIDS and hepatitis B. social withdrawal may also arise from the addicted youth. The social isolation occurs when an individual feels rejection from other people, especially relatives and other members of society. The interaction is limited to fellow users. Malnutrition occurs especially on youth from low-income families. The effects of drug use may also include lack of appetite, therefore, exposing an individual to nutritional disorders. Lastly, aggression develops after a prolonged exposure to drugs, thus, leading to social conflicts.
Pharmacies on Drug Addiction
The research data shows a clear indication that some pharmacies are involved in the promotion of drug use and addiction among the youth in Kuwait. Most of the pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies manufacture illegal drugs (AlMarri et al. 45). The availability of the drugs in the pharmacies makes it easy for users to access them. The drugs manufactured may be illegal and sold in restricted places constructed by these pharmacies. Majorly, ignorant pharmacists give a wrong prescription of a medication to their clients. According to the research outcomes, more than five thousand youth developed drug addiction as a result of false orders provided by the pharmacists. Pharmacies may also contribute to the addiction after giving a wrong dose to patients. Inappropriate combination therapy is one of the factors contributing to drug addiction among the youth in Kuwait
How the behavoir of Parents Lead to Drug Addiction in Children
The results of the researchers describe a close relationship between parents and children. In most cases, 90 per cent of the addicted youth developed their habit from their parents. When a child is growing up, he/she needs the concerns of both parents. The behaviours of the parents are typically mimicked by children when they are growing up (Rohner et al. 72). From the research, many addicted parents have neglected their children, therefore, driving the children to use drugs as their parents do. Neglect is one of the disasters that affect the growth and development of children. The neglected children do not receive practical guidance and counselling from their parents; therefore, develop a bad social habit.
In some cases, some parents may give a lot of money to their children. The most troubled youth are the school going ones because they interact with other students, therefore, ruining their bahavior. The surplus money from the parents will be used to purchase the drugs. Studies have shown that addicted parents are ignorant of the habits developed by their children. The teenagers will copy the characters of their parents. All parents should take part in nurturing their kids.
Poverty leads to children abandonment and hardship. The children have to struggle to meet their needs. Since drug trafficking provides a business opportunity, some youth are forced to venture into dealing. The drug dealing will eventually lead to addiction. Majority of addicted parents become violent to their children. Family conflicts lead to psychological stresses and depression. Youth are convinced by their peers to take drugs to get relaxed. In some cases, some children take drugs to gain courage of facing their parents in the conflicts.
Individuals to Be Blamed in the Drug Addiction Among the Youth
Parents determine the type of habits developed by their children; therefore, they are the leading people to be blamed in the drug use by young individuals. Parents and guardians may fail to provide mentorship skills that guide children in their healthy physical and mental growth. The government may fail in its operations, therefore, leading to drug trafficking and addiction (Bajwa et al. 38) the authorities may fail to establish strict rules and regulations against the selling of the drugs to youth especially the school going age. Some law enforcers are corrupt in their operation; therefore, take bribes from drug dealers.
Conclusion
Peer influence is one of the factors that lead to drug use among young people in Kuwait. The parents should guide their children to avoid drug abuse and addiction. Ministry of Health should conduct a national campaign against drug addiction its related problems to the individual user and community. The research recommends the establishment of a rehabilitation centre to assist in guiding and counselling the drug victims.
