Introduction

Overtime, there have constant changes in the kind of laptops being developed. This is because of the continuous development and emergence of new laptops. In the past, most laptops were made for businessmen and students. However, this has changed greatly. Now the laptops have been made for households. If one is in the market for a new thing, then they will be spoiled for choice. As such, there is a great need for one to familiarize with the different laptops available in the market (Girbea par. 1-5). Therefore, the following research will provide the difference between ultrabooks, laptops, and netbooks. From the comparison, a decision is going to be made on the best computer to purchase. More so, recommendations will be given to anyone that seeks to buy a laptop.

Significance

The information to be provided in the study is important for managers and students. It gives them the pertinent information they need in selecting the most appropriate computer for their use.

Comparison

When considering the type of computer to buy, it is imperative to look at its size, features, and battery life. One of the greatest differences that exist between netbook, laptop, and ultrabooks is the size. An ultrabook is almost the size of a traditional laptop. However, it is thinner and lighter. It is very good when one requires a full-size computer but does not want to own a heavy machine which will make it difficult for him/her to move around (Curtis par. 1-5). It weighs no more than 1.5kg. Netbooks, on the other hand, are much smaller compared to laptops. Most times they are known as mini laptops or computers. They can be even as small as seven inches. Most of them fall between the brackets of 10-12 inches. Its size makes it great for an individual to travel with. This is because they can easily fit into backpacks and purses without requiring one to carry out specific changes (Girbea par. 1-5). They have a lowered or reduced hardware parts. They do not have features such as floppy disk drives and parallel ports. They do not have optical drives and DVD readers. However, it has 3-in 1 card slots, USB slots, and Ethernet port.

Additionally, it has other important attributes like a Wi-Fi card and Bluetooth. It has a webcam which is important for chatting on social media sites. Unlike in the past when it only operated on a Linux Operating System, the current models are using Windows XP and Windows Vista. Also, they can use the current Windows 7 starter edition. While it has these good features, the processor is much lower compared to the normal laptop. They have low power and single-core processors known as the Intel Atom Processor. Furthermore, most of the netbooks have a minimum RAM of 1GB.

Determining which computer to choose further involves evaluating the features of each. A netbook is not a replacement for a laptop though it is almost similar in size. Unlike the normal computer, a netbook has less memory and a minimal sophisticated processor. They are good for browsing the internet and responding to messages in the social networking. It is good for typing notes or reports. It is efficient in streaming the media (Girbea par. 1-5). When circumstances are favorable, then it would be the best alternative to go for a 2GB RAM as an efficient processor. This outweighs the 1GB that is slow and lethargic in task performance. On the other hand, the netbook might have the normal hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD). Initially, most of the netbook was designed with only the SSD. Moreover, their definite storage capacity is found to be pathetic in like 16GB and 32GB. Therefore, this leads to one carrying external SD cards devices all the time as backup storages due to a limited amount of space (Curtis). However, the HDD is more of the best alternative as it provides a sufficient space of up to 160GB with only a challenge in the reduction of battery life with more exposure to reparations.

In relation to battery life, it is important to know that it is not limited to those with a constant supply of power who sometimes find it hard to remove notebook out of their shelter. This affects the laptop users who have limited charging alternatives. As it is seen, the real battery life is likely to be half those carried during advertisements. This is therefore explained by the fact that the battery relies on the processor together with what is displayed on the notebook. The normal average life stand should range from 4-6 hours. However, there is always an alternative in the extended batteries but this comes with a challenge of increased weight than the normal weight of the device (Techspirited par. 7-9). So, when the netbook is light then the battery life service is likely to be short. This draws us into a conclusion of weighing between the weight and power life as one's preference

While drawing examples and arguments from the above statements, there are two things that are more likely to be observed concerning the hardware over computing ability. The effectiveness of netbook is clearly between the laptop and a Smartphone, but mainly on the later. As seen, assignments, surfing of webs, the spreadsheet works and fewer computer assignments can easily be performed on a netbook while other works such as the games in the computer, encoding, media utility can be achieved at a slow pace or not at all. These stands to be the real fact with the while considering the 1GB RAM and 16GB of (HDD) (Techspirited par. 8). In order to be flexible and adaptable, in relation to the netbook, someone needs to anticipate at a low profile. One should not expect much effectiveness and usefulness.

Moreover, one of the outstanding features about the netbook is its affordability that is from its prime pros of the low cost. In fact, everyone would stand for a computing equipment that is portable and compact with its price being half that of a PC (Techspirited par. 9). The average cost of a netbook ranges from $200-$500 with some models reaching $600 (Techspirited par. 9). However, this only comes with the mind that you only get what you have paid for. An example is when you pay $300 for a notebook will not outshine your laptop cost as a cheap gadget. Some numerous features are found below the cover with less hardware formation and computing speed.

On the other hand, the ultrabook is good especially for an individual who wants to replace the traditional computers or desktop model. They are characterized by high-powered processors and huge memory size. Currently, a large number of ultrabooks have a storage capacity of 128GB. The flash memory can even reach 268GB. This provides the user with huge opportunity to store his things. Other than having a huge storage capacity, ultrabooks have a good display. Its screen is 13-inch and for those that travel a lot, they can get one with a screen size of 11-inch MacBook. The computer also has a retina display with resolutions ranging between 1800*2880 (Girbea). It is good for working with graphics and large spreadsheets. Moreover, its screen size is the best and serves the user well. Just like the laptops, the processing of ultrabooks could be improved. Compared to laptops and netbooks, ultrabook has a much longer battery life. Some even have a battery life of 5 to 7 hours after a single charge. Laptops, on the other hand, easy to carry, as well as light and small in size unlike ultrabooks. Most of them keep power for long hours even other going up-to 12 hours. Depending on the size and the design of the laptop, and the work being undertaken, the laptop can take long or short hours.

Recommendation

When selecting the kind of computer to buy, it is imperative to look at features that best suits you. Some of the features that one must consider are the battery life, computer features, and size. If you are an individual that moves a lot, then you will need a light and small size computer. If you are in design and graphics, it is advisable that you select a netbook since it has the best graphics and design features. Lastly, it is important to take into consideration the battery life. An ultrabook has the highest battery life. As such, it is important to choose it over the laptop and netbook. Therefore, what stands out in a netbook? It should be known that it is an effective tiny laptop, cheap and uses less power. It is, therefore, suitable for students who are at a budget. So, for learners, it's the most suitable device. However, the future of the netbook has been surpassed by the vibrant improvements of the tablet PC such as iPad 2 and Motorola Xoom. In fact, the tablet is likely to contain more or less of the same feature with a small size in a solid way. On this the channel for dominance in the computer developments, key issues have been advanced to the consumers in preference to their taste in an easy way. It should also be known that it has a lower battery life.

Conclusion

From the description of the three computers, I have decided to go for the ultrabook. This is because it has a longer battery life and can be used in different gaming and presentations. Additionally, it has features that allow for good graphics, editing, and other-processing applications. Moreover, they are sleek and very beautiful with a thickness of 21 mm. Its screen size and level of portability are between 1 and 1.5kg. They are very light with a high speed that can be increased. In comparison to netbooks and laptops, ultrabook has shown a great step in terms of performance. Its processing power is ten-times that of netbooks. Its battery life is also good. The manufacturers say that it goes for 6-9 hours. Therefore, if I am to go to a meeting, I will be able to use my computer for long hours without charging it.
