Introduction
Research is significant in criminal justice as it helps in advancing knowledge concerning policymaking. More so, analysis assists the students, criminal justice professionals, and scholars in identifying what relates to law enforcement, crime prevention, corrections, and other criminal justice issues. Also, learning research enhances critical thinking, which helps in the formulation of policies involving criminal justice. Analysis enables students to have essential skills of thinking that allows them to analyze data from multiple sources in the criminal justice field. Thus, analysis facilitates decisions for forming criminal justice policies. Therefore, it helps to locate practical approaches to law enforcement and justice administration. Research study assists students in understanding strengths and weaknesses in the field of criminal justice, enabling them to make appropriate decisions.
Difference Between Qualitative and Quantitative Research
Qualitative research is an examination of variables in a more comprehensive way. On the other hand, quantitative analysis involves gathering specific information that describes a phenomenon across multiple participants hence providing possibilities of summarizing features within relationship and groups. More so, qualitative research entails approaches that help in the understanding of opinions, reasons, and motivations. Thus, it helps to develop a hypothesis for quantitative research. On the contrary, quantitative research involves methods quantifying issues by developing numerical information that is transformed into valuable statistics (Sinaga, 2014). The quantitative analysis quantifies attitudes, behaviors, categories, and other variables. Thus, the qualitative research method is capable of generalizing results from a largescale sample population. While quantitative research formulates specific facts through the use of measurable data.
The quantitative analysis, through the use of proper sampling, enhance the measurement of variety of subjects' reactions to certain questions. Mostly, each issue has specific answers; hence, results can be analyzed and related statistically. On the other hand, qualitative research provides context that allows in the understanding of those results. The analysis captures the utterances of people and describes their knowledge. Qualitative information offers the experiences of real-life in various variations. Therefore, quantitative methods are systematically and use standardized responses from many clients. Qualitative offers more details concerning a smaller group of people.
Furthermore, qualitative analysis is a concern with meaning with a thorough approach to unfolding a phenomenon. The quantitative approach uses measurable quantifying characters to describe an event. For instance, when analyzing the color of white, qualitative research will focus on the meaning of white, which means pure, peace, and explain how "white" implies to people. However, the quantitative approach on "white" will focus on measuring the level of whiteness, convert the level to quantifiable elements that can be compared to another "white" (Sinaga, 2014).
Qualitative analysis uses a small amount of information that explains many cases. However, quantitative research entails an objective approach that involves the collection of data used to elaborate a few examples. Thus, qualitative methods enable the study to have sensitive outcomes. Otherwise, the quantitative analysis develops universal generalization results of the study. More so, qualitative analysis facilitates clear goals in the study. In the case of quantitative analysis, the study.
Differences Between Pure and Applied Research
Pure research involves advanced scientific knowledge that enhances understanding of a particular natural phenomenon basically in the natural sciences. More so, pure research is mainly theoretical that major on testing theories and fundamental principles. Also, basic research involves the formulation and generalization of the theory that entails human behavior and relationships (Surbhi, 2018). The analysis helps in the collection of data and information with universal applicability. Hence, pure research enables the addition of knowledge to the existing one.
On the other hand, applied research entails the application of real-life events of natural science. The applied study provides solutions to a particular practical complication and invents innovative technology. The research studies a specific set of circumstances, eventually relating the results to the same events (Surbhi, 2018). Moreover, applied research helps in the ascertainment of political, social, and economic trends across the globe.
The main objective of pure research is to form scientific predictions and knowledge pertaining the human behavior. However, applied research exclusively expand the underlying science in the development of technique and technology. Thus, the main objective of basic study is the addition of knowledge to the existing one. While applied study helps to find solutions for a specific problem. Hence basic research is mainly theoretical when developing solutions while applied research uses the practical approach to solve problems.
Importance of Ethics in Criminal Justice
The ethics codes enable the researchers to be honest in their research. Through the signing by the ethics regulations, researchers are prompt to deliver accurate information on the study. The practice of ethics rules in criminal justice research helps to prevent the release of false information to the public, which is the worst thing in the justice field. More so, ethics help to eliminate researchers who deliver false results to the public (Williams, 2015). Therefore, ethics helps to maintain the discipline among the researchers to ensure accurate and relevant information of the analysis.
Ethics ensures the policymakers of criminal justice protects the privacy rights of the citizens. More so, ethics influence the application of law and justice procedures without discrimination of any groups in society. Criminal justice's main objective is to serve people equally without punishing them. Thus, through a set of ethics rules, policymakers form policies with a different purpose of helping people without privileging a particular group.
Ethics prevent plagiarism of information of the research. Moreover, the research results are safeguarded by the ethics rules. For instance, past students selling their research papers on the websites for other students to purchase is ethically wrong. Also, some researchers illegally use other people's work to form research whereby through the use of ethics, helps to prevent the criminal act.
Ethics helps to safeguard the life of the research subjects. The ethics rules state clearly that the issue should not be mistreated in conducting the research procedures (Williams, 2015). In case the individual volunteers for the research, the individual's mental or physical health should not be part of the questions asked in the study. Thus, the ethic codes facilitate the protection of both the researcher and those being interrogated from mistreatment.
Criminal justice researchers should study ethics to be aware of the ethic codes. The study of ethics helps professionals to point out unpleasant things in society. Hence, through the ethics, researchers get motivated to report the wrong issues and ensure the correction of the problems. Thus, it is significant that the ethical decision is made to assist the researchers to obtain the required results for the study (Williams, 2015). Therefore, ethics facilitate a moral attitude of a country as the ethics ensure honestly of people in all aspects of work.
