1. What is the topic of your research?

Maduro, the president of Venezuela, leads a corrupt government and implements an authoritative leadership style. The military, politicians, and other people who oppose his leadership are arrested and tortured. Those who oppose the government's 2020 COVID 10 quarantine restrictions also face the same punishment. The country is in an economic crisis, and illegal business activities like illicit gold mining, and human and drug trafficking are rampant. The people lack standard medical care, food, and other essential needs, but the government is least interested in helping them.

2. What are the questions your research is examining?

Duddy, Patrick. Political Crisis in Venezuela. Council on Foreign Relations., 2015.

Anti-government protests were rampant in Venezuela from February to March 2014 because the government became dictatorial after Maduro took over in 2013. People went to jail, lost their lives, and suffered severe injuries during the violent protests. There is a toxic relationship between the United States and Venezuela because Maduro accused the US of trying to overthrow his government by creating an economic war in his country. The Union of South American states supported Venezuela by demanding the US respect the country and revoke sanctions it imposed on it. Maduro won the 2018 elections fraudulently. The research seeks to find out the political state of Venezuela, the response of international bodies and other countries towards the crisis, and to offer recommendations on what international bodies and other countries should do to save the people of Venezuela.

Rebolledo-Ponietsky, K., C. V. Munayco, and Edward Mezones-Holguín. "Migration crisis in Venezuela: impact on HIV in Peru." Journal of Travel Medicine 26.2 (2019): tay155.

Humanitarian issues lead to massive immigration into Venezuela; thus, causing overpopulation in the country. Immigration is also causing an increase in the HIV infection rate in Peru. Food shortage and declining food production in the country are a result of political crisis and overpopulation. Many households rely on government food assistance, and children are suffering from acute malnutrition. Child deaths and pediatric hospital admissions are high because of malnutrition.
