Introduction

Treatment of women in Islam was interesting for various reasons. Firstly, I chose to take specific directions considering the degrading situation as a result of the public opinion. The public always perceives Islam religion as being oppressive, and anti-democratic contrary to their perceptions of other religions, contrary to what they should think of the religion. Most of the critics in public are on the wrong as they do not understand any Islamic teachings whereas the Holy Quran notes about the equality of gender. It is interesting to find the teachings of Islam not being talked about by most Muslims whereas it could be the only evidence that there is wrong thinking amongst the public. It is also ironical to find the practices being claimed against Islam being practiced by the public. Acts including being denied rights over their children, being abandoned, having no choice of divorce, lacking societal status, being disrespected, and also being denied education. The challenge that exists in stating these facts is that the audience has no background regarding the Quran hence, no substantial evidence for the claims. An emphasis on the treating of Muslim women with great honor, kindness, and dignity according to God's commandments, therefore, is a hurdle for the audience.

Secondly, I found it is interesting to see how the laws in Islam are different but better than the laws of other religions. For instance, writing about discrimination would require succinct evidence since such an act could only result from degradation of tradition as well as the distortion of teachings. Even though people can see sharia or Islamic law as a source of women oppression, it is not the case as Muslims follow the teachings of the Quran strictly. For instance, it is evident that women in the west are treated with humiliation contrary to what is thought of Muslims treating women with humiliation. It is interesting and ironical how the west women are the slaves, politically, economically, and socially whereas Islamic religion encompasses various constituents of liberation including egalitarian sense and the absence of religious hierarchies, a point that is not well driven into the minds of the public.

Finally, it is interesting to see how Muslim clothing is being criticized. The woman's hijab is negatively perceived as an item that leads to women oppression. The public opinion states that the mode of dressing is a release of the need to conform to stereotypes hence, discrimination, in a sense. Interestingly, People will never understand that different cultures have different meanings by wearing their preferred clothes. The point being missed in public opinion is the desire for women to stick to their cultural identity. Regarding education, Muslims ensure that education is offered equally, as opposed to public opinion. Additionally, there is also a law prohibiting them from marrying without their consent, as opposed to how the public discusses. These are just some of the laws and proving certain points would require various teachings. However, considering the highest share to be of Christians, convincing them that there are these teachings could be a difficult task for Muslims.

Conclusion

Other limitations in the project included the need to provide sources to approve various claims. A coherent description of the arguments was required for a better conviction that the public opinion is wrong in most cases. However, besides these challenges, I still learned more about Islamic culture, their practices, and beliefs. Additionally, I can take away points of the teachings of Islam being unique and useful in preventing them from certain acts, not realized by the larger society. The Islam religion is; therefore, not what people think about on the negative end, but is strict in its teachings and follows the Quran to the letter.
